Thanks for the info, Zlatica. Unfortunately, the Slovakian phonebook only works in Slovak. So, I cannot make any use of it. If you have the time and energy and can look up some of the Bavolyar and Grilly phone numbers for me, please let me know, as I would love to phone them from here.

Regards, Nicholas

Nicholas

I would recommend sending a letter instead of a phone call. We do not know if the people know English or Hungarian.

Hello Zlatica,

thanks for the help with the phone book. I can work it now.

By the way, are you related to the Bavolyar family? I am not sure how you got interested in this family.

Where do you live in SLovakia? (We live near Dover and Canterbury, South East England.)

You're welcome, Nicholas,

I am not related and not researching your ancestral surname. I first posted to you in 2007. I go also on Ancestry and Genforum boards to help out with research websites. I was born in eastern Slovakia and residing in Ohio.

Nicholas Koleszar: Re: Bavolyar family
This is funny, Zlatica! I assumed that you were in Slovakia.

I was a family doctor in Windsor,Ontario for many years - not that far from Ohio, and went to Toledo several times to visit the sister of my most favourite jazz pianist, Art Tatum (long since dead). We moved back to England some ten years ago.

century: Re: Bavolyar family
HI NICHOLAS,

I BELIEVE THAT NANDOR BAVOLYAR WAS MY GRANDFATHER'S BROTHER. MY GRANDFATHER MOVED FROM KASSA TO THE EASTER PART OF HUNGARY (WHICH BECAME PART OF ROMANIA) AND DO NOT BELIEVE HE WAS IN TOUCH. THEIR PARENTS EITHER DIVORCED OR SENIOR BAVOLYAR DIED. HOWEVER NANDOR'S MOTHER RE-MARRIED AND HAD FURTHER CHILDREN, AND OBVIOUSLY NOT UNDER THE NAME OF BAVOLYAR.

Nicholas Koleszar: Re: Bavolyar family
Delighted to receive your note. Can you send me any dates and names on your side of the family as it relates to Nandor Bavolyar? Any information would be valuable to me, as I have so little on my father's side of the family, however peripheral. Did I mention, that I have a vivid piccture of Nandor bacsi visiting us in Budapest during the war years? I have details of Nandor's descendants and some upgoing data too, but only on his wife's side, Molnarszky. I have nothing on his parents, or siblings. I can send you what I have, if it is of interest.

Many thanks, Miklos Koleszar
