	Joy : Steve Berke I am trying to find any information on my Father. "Steve Berke." He is since past on and I want to learn more on his History. Its a shame that many people like myself who love their parents don't learn enough about them when they are alive. My father Steve Berke had several Brothers, as follows , Joe, John,Charles, Elec or Alec, There are a couple more but I cant remember their names. There were two sisters also they were Grace and Margrete. I dont know what yr my father came over to the usa , He worked on the railroad when he came to the states and then I think this is why he did not serve in the War. Steve Berke was born in 8/22/1901 In Hungary. I thought it was around Transelvania somewhere ( sorry about the spelling). Any information would be greatly appreciated . I loved my father very much and want to pass heritage on to his grandchildren , of which he has many of them. 	Janos: Re: Steve Berke Dear Joy, If you check the Ellisisland immigration records, you may see your father, Istvan Berke arrived on Pannonia ship, at his 7 years, on October 3, 1908, together with his mother (unfortunatelly I wasn't able to descifrate her name) and his brothers: Kalman (b. 1894), Sandor (b. 1897) and Janos (b.1899). On the second page of record, there is writed that they had the tichet payed by their father, Janos Berke. Janos arrived in 1907, at his 37 years. 	Berke Tamás Azt írja ki nekem a gépem h nem tudok levelet küldeni neked, ezért ide írom le amit akartam: Köszönöm a gyors választ! Igazából azért is kérek segítséget, mert Pécsett tanulok, így Kanizsa, és Pécs között kell ingáznom, és elég nehéz időt szakítani erre is. Ha vmit, bármit megtudnál, akár az én közvetlen leszármazottaim, akár nem…kérlek küld el az eredményt! Az viszont valószínű, hogy nem az én családom után kutatsz, ugyanis a miénk, ha jól tudom, egy egyszerű parasztcsalád. Igazából azért álltam neki a kutatásnak, mert érdekel a történelem, így a családom története is! Annyit tudok, hogy a falu (Sand) története szerint 4 család népesítette be a falut a törökök kiűzése után! Ez a 4 család vend volt, köztük a Berkék is! Sand testvérközsége Őrihodos, ami pedig Szlovéniában van, aminek volt egy neves Berke Balázs nevű evangélikus lelkésze! Gondolom mi is valahonnan ebből a faluból származhatunk! De hogy hogyan és miként?! Ezt szeretném kideríteni! Amúgy ha érdekel Sand és környéke Iharoshoz tartozott régen! És a környékbeli falvakban, Liszó, Nemespátró, Sand sok a Berke! Valóban, 1609. december 10-n kapta Berke Ambrus a nemességet (vajon mit tett?), és egy birtokot is, délen, a mai Horvátország vagy Szlovénia területén. A kutyabőr a család másik ágában maradt:) a címerről megvan a leírás, nagyjából úgy néz ki, hogy egy griff tart kardot a mancsában, mellette a Nap és a Hold. Nagyapám egyik nagybátyja kivándorolt az USA-ba az 1900-as évek elején, róla soha többet nem hallottak itthon. 	gkberke: Re: kérdés I know something about the Berke family. However not all Berke's family members have nobel ancestors. Why? Because not all branches comes from the ennobled Ambrus Berke. I know that branch of Berke family from Vas county(nowdays Slovenia) was nobel. They held the title of Ritter von (that was told to me by the expert for hungarian nobility in Prekmurje(slovenian name for Vas county)). I have some information about members of this family(my ancestors), but only of those who lived in Murska Sobota(Muraszombat). Those were Berke Jozsef, Berke Mihaly, Berke Gyozo, Berke Irena, Berke Martha, etc. Berke Mihaly was lawyer, member of parliament and brother of Berke Janos who was priest in Križevci. They have establieshed 2 banks in Muraszombat and were big landowners.If somebody is interested for more informations please contact me. It is interesting that 2 villages in Slovenia are named after the slovenian branch of Berke family: Berkehaza(Berkovci in slovenian language). His surname was Kovats(i have the same surname) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/István_Kováts Because i do not live in Hungary i cant find for informations about Kovats fammily so i was serchig for info about Berke fammily which lived in Muravidek (Prekmurje in Slovenian language).
