Zlatica : Re: Family
The Hungarian phone site is at :
www.matav.hu/tudakozo

Start your search by looking over the Ellis Island manifests for your ancestral names.
There is a Lidia CSAKI on EI that is from Tiszadarat/Tiszakarad, Zemplen megye.
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 click on Zemplen

Zlatica : Re: Family
Your welcome.
So than you have the manifest, you know where they were from. Good. You could see what kind of church records did LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) filmed from this town, order the films and gather ancestral information.

Searching thru Hungary's phone site is the next option. There are no listing in the town of Tiszakarad. The name CSAKI does exist in Komarom, Cigand, Mocsa, and Nyiregahaza.
You could send them a letter with your family information and see what develops. It would be much better if you could locate the address in Hungary.

Hi

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910
The town of Dombrad falls into Szabolcs megye, Hungary
Another good locator is :
www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm
Might your Julia's maiden name be Bodnar and not Dodnar?
The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing church records of Dombrad. You can order the films and gather ancestral information.
www.bmi.net/jjaso to familiarize yourself with church wording.

201 CSAKIs, 5 DODNARs, 2734 BODNARs, 1 GARNICS passed thru Ellis Island to America.

Zlatica : Re: Family
Junglelion,

In 1990 in Poland there were 11 GARNICs, 2 GARNICZs, 31 GARNISs, and 6 GARNITZs.
www.herby.com.pl/herby

It is possible that your GARNICS "might" have Slavic roots.

A listing for CSAKI, BODNAR and GARNICS in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary.

Hello. My name is Leonard Garnick. I noticed the name Csaki in your message. My grandmothers name is Julia (Jolan) born February 18 1905 and married to my grandfather Paul (Pal) March 18 1924 in Dombrad Hungary. The spelling of my grandfathers last name is Garnics. Now I don't know if there is any connection here. Maybe you could help me. Also they emmigrated to Canada in 1930 through Cherborg France. Both grandparents have passed on now. Please email me back if you like. Thanks. Leonard

Helló, Leonard Garnick!

I dont speak englis. Sorry!

Ezeket megjelöltem a térképen.

Ha letudom fordítani elküldöm angolul is.

Leonard: Re: searching for relatives
Just reading message from Jan 11, 2007. My name is Leonard Garnick from Edmonton Canada. I am working on family geneology and would like to establish a connection in Hungary. My grandmothers name was Jolan (Julia) Csaki. She had seven other brothers and sisters (Rose, Bert, Gustavou, Alex, Barbara, Menyhert, and Andrew. My grandmother married Pal Garnics in Dombrad, March 18, 1924. My father (Janos) was born to them September 25, 1928. They emmigrated to canada June 23, 1930 settling on a farm in Wildmere and later Leedale Alberta. I was born to Janos and Margaret September 12, 1951 and still living in the area.
I've done the family history here on the Canadian side and would like to continue back on the Hungarian side. After reading your email, I think there may be a connection, I hope to hear back from you sometime soon. I do remember my grandmother had a sister come to Canada for a visit in the 70's (can't remember exactly when) and my grandmother went to Hungary with her two daughters (Lanke and Olga) in the later 70's for a visit. That was the last time. All have passed on now.
Write back if you think there may be a connection, I'll gladly reply. Leonard
