Pat Westcott: Surname CZIFRA
I am researching the CZIFRA family name who came from Sajovomas, Borsod-Zemplen, Hungary. But it appears they came from another region or village. Does anyone know where they may have come from before going to Sajovamos? The family members apparently did not originate there, as they are not found on the church records.

Janos: CZIFRAs in Transylvania
Dear Pat,
The surname Czifra it looks to be frecvent in my area - Transylvania, Romania. I have data from Kezdivasarhely and Kezdimarkosfalva, but I cant be sure if these are yours.
Did you know more about the family? Have you their religion or maybe few names and vital data?
There is posted only one Czifra in "Who is Who in Transilvania, 2000" from Nagyvarad (Oradea) area: the widow of Janos Czifra, Piroska Koteles *1941, with a son Janos *1976 (not me...)

Hi Laura,

The earliest ancestor I have came from Sajovamos, Hungary was Gyorgy Cifra who was born about 1823. His son was Ignacz Cifra who is the great grandfather born abt 1863. I do not have any definite dates nor do I have any definite other information. They were Greek Catholic. He went to Hangacs, Borsod, Zemplen, Hungary to marry his wife Ersebet Ekes who was Roman Catholic.

My father was born in Sajovamos in 1951. His name is Janos Czifra. His father name is Janos too, but unfortunately I don't know, who was his father. But we are greek catholic, this is 100%! :)But I think, my father's father didn't live in Hangacs. They lived in Sajovamos and Sajopetri. After that my father moved a closely city, where we live today.
Well, I was starting the search only these days and I don't know a lot.
I will look after your datas, I am sure. If I find something I will write for you in this site. Ok?
Maybe my father's grandfather's brother was your relative, who lived in Hangacs. I will look after to this.
