Robin: The name Dauda
My last name is Dauda. My great grandmother, etel came to the US on the Carpatia in I think 1913 with her 3 children, Janos, etel and jozef. That's all I know. I wish I knew more.

Zlatica : Re: The name Dauda
You will need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed. Thru Ellis Island in 1913 passed Etel, Etel, Janos and Jozsef DAUDA. Sounds like your ancestors. They were from Oroszhaza/ Oroshaza, Hungary.
The EI manifest has some usefull information. You will need to sort of register but no money is involved to view the manifest.

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 click on Bekes
www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm (mapquest) is a good locator.

The Hungarian phone site is listing a DAUDA in Oroshaza's phone book. Possible distant relatives.
www.matav.hu/tudakozo/index_e.html

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) have filmed the church records so check out if they have for Oroshaza. You can order the films and gather ancestral information.

baajos: dauda

Robin: Re: Dauda-CT
No, not from Willimantic. But if you feel you are related to a Dauda in CT, then you are related to me. It's a real uncommon name (at least for Hungarians it's a popular name in Africa) If you are looking for Daudas in CT let me know!

Robin: Re: The name Dauda
Yeah, everyone in CT is related to me. I'm starting to think my name is lost, and there is no-one here that is my family :(
I did e-mail a CA Dauda once, but they insist there is no relation. My Aunt Ethel Dauda actually was an actress and moved out there, but she married someone by the last name of King. I don't believe they had children.
Thanks for looking for me!

I have noticed that the Dauda name is unusual- I did not realize it was Hungarian- I thought maybe irish. Do you, yourself come from a large family?
