I am searching for the family of my great grandmother. I have very little to go by unfortunately. Her name was Terezia Dobrova. She married Gyorgy Varga, who was apparently a tailor and they had 12 children, One of them was my grandfather who was born in Heves on 26th August1917. My grandfather married my grandmother Magdalena Handelsman (or in Hebrew Miriam) in 1945 and in 1948 they emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where they both died, she in 1964 and he in 1984.They had two children, my aunt was born in 1945 and my dad in 1946.
We know my greatgrandmothers name from my grandfathers birth certificate, but as it is not the original issued in Hungary in time of his birth, it is a replacement issued in 1955, we do not have her date of birth nor his fathers.
Unfortunately my granddad was not keen on staying in touch with his family in Hungary and he always refused to say why.
My father and his sister were told by him that his mother was of some noble origins and that the family's name could have been Esztergaly. I have only found out that in Zala county there is a village called Esztergalyhorvati, which used to be called Esztergaly.
We also know that my greatgrandfather was tortured and killed by the communists, who skinned him alive. Again when and why noone knows.
My greatgrandmother died around 1986 we believe, as she was still alive when my graddad passed away in 1984 (at that time we had some kind of contact with the family in Hungary with some of my grandads' brothers, i.e. Odon, Zoltan and sister Anika.
But after 1989 the have cut the contact.
So if there is anyone out there who has any idea, even the smallest about the origins of my greatgrandmother or greatgrandfather or anything else, please forward it to me.
