Zlatica : Re: family history
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 and if you click on Ung megye you will locate the village of Nagylaz / Veliky Laz/ Velikie Lazy, Ukraine South-East of the city of Ungvar/ Uzgorod/Uzhorod, Ukraine.

There are some DOLGOS' and ZOLTANs listings in Slovak Republic's phone book.
www.zoznamst.sk SK's phone site
http://mapy.atlas.sk for locating a town in SK
Both website have an English version / British flag symbol.
If in the mapy website in the rectangle you type Nizne Nemecke you can manuever the map site to locate the village of Vel.Lazy.
You might do good posting on Ukraine's boards.
121 DOLGOSs, 62 MITROKAs,57 ZOLTANs, and 1 ZOLTANY passed thru Ellis Island. You could take a look at their manifests if you have not yet.

mstrait: Re: Mitroka
My father, George Mitroka, was from Velyki Lazy and emigrated to Western PA in 1911. He had a brother Paul and a sister Mary who both came to the US after he did. He also had brothers Andrew, Steven, John, and Peter and a sister Barbara who stayed in Ukraine. My great nephew is planning on going to Uzhorod and Velyki Lazy in summer 2005 and would like to track down relatives while he is there. Any feedback would be fantastic. Thanks.

lisa frank: Re: Mitroka
Veliki Lazy is a tiny village. Everyone knows everyone else. I travelled there 5 years ago. Had hired an interpreter and driver. The driver stopped a man outside and inquired about Frank and was told exactly where my cousin lived. I had not mever been in contact with them, nor even knew of their existence. It had taken me about 20 years just to locate the village. It was shocking to learn that it was now in Ukraine. I had left there in 1929. What a pleasant surprise for all of us. My Dolgos cousin lived a few doors away - older than I. Wish I could return but the trip is difficult for the elderly. Good Luck!

Barbra Mitroka was my paternal grandmother's maiden name and I did not inquire further about it then. I became interested in genealogy following my return home. Too bad.
