Where have you looked for some documnation? Do you know if he was naturalized citizen? He might have filled out a Draft Registration Form. Was he alive for social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
Unfortunately the old forms do not have a place of birth or last residence. Do you know the language spoken by your ancestor? I would think that Michael would have come as Mihaly. http://topolcsanyi.alphalink.com.au/names
6 DRINKOs coming thru Ellis Island www.ellisislandrecords.org B. Sznt. Peter is Bur.SzentPeter-Borsky Svaty Peter and now incorporated to Borsky Mikulas (Burszentmiklos).
DRINKA list in Borsky Mikulas. www.zoznamst.sk

reok: Re: Drinko, Drinka
yes mihaly was his name... he arrived in 1882 , his wife michalena came in 1886 with the two children she is listed as drinks on ancestry .com.

I looked up those drinkos on ellisisland..I do not believe they are relatives. During research i came across the daughter of Lorenzo...she never new of my family.

I believe i have covered everything, Mihaly didnt ever become a citizen that i could find, his oldest son who was on the ship with his wife according to the 1910 census is naturalized but I have been unable to find that record. He died in 1911 before the war and never had a draft card. His father did not have a draft card either. of the four drienkos that were born in "hungary" i have all their death records and they all have place of birth listed as Austria. I do have a "jednota" which is the slovakian insurance policy of sorts for the son michael drienko but is says nothing of his place of birth.

I appreciate your help...do you think i have missed anything? a cousin who was closer to that side of the family said her grandmother said the drienkos came from Magyidamegye, Hungary i have been unable to find any such place.

You have covered it all. Being that you have a "Jednota" insurance policy might we think that your ancestors were Slovak or from present Slovak Republic? I am sure you know the history of Austria-Hungary: http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm
My aunt put down Austria but technically the record should say Hungary.
A map of Hungarian megye: http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 There a Maramaros megye, Moson megye and Maros-Torda megye. What religion were your ancestors? I do not have a paid subscription to Ancestry so can not see the DRINKS you are talking about.
I did find DRIENKA in area code 045 in Lisov, Zvolen, Kremnica, Ziar nad Hronom, Cabravsky Vrbovok of Slovakia's phone book. www.zoznamst.sk Found some more in area code 048 in Banska Bystrica.
Have you posted on Ancestry or Genforum?

Few more questions. Where did your ancestors settle?
Do you know Michalena's maiden name? Does the family show up in 1930 census? That is the census that would say Na-naturalize, Al-alien or Pa-first paper.
Someplace in the US documents should be a place of birth. Were there more children born in US? Have you followed their records? Anything on their church baptismal certificate about place of birth of their parents? Did they attend a "nationality" church?
As you might deduct, DRIENKA, DRINKA and DRINKO are 3 different family names.
Magyidamegye: if I break it down it would be like Nagy (Magy not correct) ida, megye. There was a town Nagyida, Abauj megye, Hungary now Velka Ida, Slovak Republic.

jdrienko: Re: drienko
My surname is Drienko was born in Slovakia (Banska Bystrica) the same as my father, his father (my grandfather) was born in Kremnica where his parents lived during world war II. I have not investigated the history but I have been told by my grand father, his parents came to Slovakia from southern Germany but I have information before that... It's great to hear there are a few more of us in existence

Now I live in Australia and Europe thesedays
