spaceangel420: looking for my grandmother's history
My grandmother Annie immigrated to the USA from Hungary between 1894 and 1909. Anyone know about this family?

Do you know where she was born? Have you looked thru Ellis Island website? www.ellisislandrecords.org Was she naturalized citizen? Did she have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com Those forms would have a place of birth.

She was born in Hungary. I know her dad was the Sheriff for years in whatever town she was from. She had two sisters that also came to America. I know from old census records that she became a citizen in 1909. I was told that she did not come in by way of Ellis Island but I was not told where she DID come in.

Since you say she was naturalized citizen than best bet would be for you to locate her naturalization petition.
She could have come thru Boston, Philadelphia or Baltimore.
Here is a size of Hungary at the time of your ancestor:

spaceangel420: Re: looking for my grandmother's history
Thank you for your input. The census I found says that Polish was spoken, but they lived in a very small town in CT with many immigrants from Poland and Austria. According to my dad, she spoke Hungarian. In fact he communicated with a young man from Hungary last year, whom was on work-study in the U.S., and he was understood. Unfortunately, my dad passed away this past summer, so his memories are now lost to me.

Nothing is lost. It just that it will cost you money and time now to locate the paperwork where there will be a place of birth, which you know you need. Post on Ancestry and Genforum for more exposure, if you have not.

Zlatica : Re: looking for my grandmother's history
Few suggestions.
It seems that long time a surname DROMBLIKOVICS existed in Tarczal/Tarcal, Zemplen megye and surname DROMBLIKOVITS in Tolcsva, Zemplen megye, Hungary per www.radixforum.com in Surnames index. You can order the church records for either of the villages and see if your ancestor Anna and her family show up in the records. You can also locate your ancestor's Anna naturalization petition and there should be a place of birth. It is possible that the surname as such no longer exist, only in a female line or it evolved into a different spelling.
