bgames: Female name designation?
Is there differnt female name designations, ending the Maiden name, if the female is married or widowed? My g-g grnadmother is listed as Elizebeth Wargopal on her daughters marriage license. However I see no Wargopal names in any census. Could hername have been Wargo or Vargo and the pal is meaning maiden name for widowed female.

B,

Are you talking about US Census? What ever name she chose to put down.
The church records would be in Magyar/ Hungarian or Latin.
The OVA ending is only used in Slovak and Czech Republic and only after 1918 in those records.

The English W makes the Slavic V sound so that is why in US the surname Wargo = Vargo, Wargopal = Vargopal or Vargapal.

bgames: Re: Female name designation?
On My Great Grandfathers marriage certificate, recorded 1905 in Trenton New Jersey, it list's his mother as elizabeth Wargapal (the a in pal has an accent above it). It is hard to tell if the vowels are a's or o's? I have not seen this name in any census or emmigration records. We did know a family of Vargo, that the family was close to. So I think her name may have been Vargo and the "Pa'l a suffix of some kind. I do know his father had died before he emmigrated so I was thinking it may be the widow designation???? You can see the marriage certificate at

Brian

We know that the surname VARGAPAL exists in the SK's phone book and actually not that far from Kozuchov in Hran.
It is possible that since the surname VARGA / VARGO is so common that the family might have added a Pal / Paul on the end as an alias, meaning this was Pal Varga's daughter.
For sure it is not a widow designation. Being that the marriage certificate is from USA, the spelling might not be what it is in the "old country". If you would to order the church records of Kozuchov, I am sure you would see different spelling of the surname depending on the orientation of the priest.
Check the Ellis Island manifest for VARGAPAL. A Jan Vargapal was going to his brother Michael Varga living in Trenton, NJ. It is possible that once the family was in the "new land" they dropped the Pal since there was no need for it.

bgames: Ducs in Ungarn?
I obtained the marriage certificate of my great Grandfather's brother, Andrew Ducs. His mother is listed as Susia. His 1864 birth place is listed as Ungarn. So that I can find them in the 1869 census, where is Ungarn located?

Ungarn means Hungary in German, you need more than that.
Vargapál is a fairly common name, MATAV Hung. Ph. dir. lists over 500.

Is DUCS somehow connected with VARGAPAL or Kozuchov?
The SK's phone book is listing DUCS, DUC' and DUC'-ANCI.
