I'm just wondering, i see there are no other messages on this surname here either, i'd like to know any information on this name, simply because it is rare, and can't find much on it. It might also determine who i'm related to in this world??

Start the search by looking at Ellis Island manifests of the 81 DYDAs that came thru to America. To me seems like they were from historical region Galicia. www.ellisislandrecords.org You need to register, no money.
http://maxpages.com/poland
www.halgal.com
www.surnamenavigator.org
www.pgsa.org
In 1990 census of names there were 643 DYDAs in Poland. www.herby.com.pl/herby in Polish and only distribution. Two phone listings show up in Slovak Republic's phone book. www.zoznamst.sk

jackie: thanx
Thanx alot for the info, where did you get it from?

My grandfather moved over here (north wales U.K) after the war and married my grandmother, but apparently he then fell out with his family over money (the root ov all evil) because he was on the bread line himself, therefore i have no idea about my relatives in Poland and would like to get in touch with someone.

kind rgards

Your welcome.

As from where I got all the information, surfing the (Polish) genealogy board like Ancestry www.ancestry.com/share and Genforum http://genforum.com
Do you know from what town was your grandfather? Need that in order to start your genealogical research.

www.lodz.pl
Use www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm to locate a town.
The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing church records of Lodz. You can order the films and gather ancestral information. Best to post on Poland's board, if you have not.

Follow with that lead. Here is a detailed (old) map:
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/3felmeres.htm
Check LDS-Mormons website as it is listing all kinds of records for Lwow/Lvov. Something might be there for your research.

simon dyda: dyda
Hi Jackie, this is your cousin Simon presently in Belfast. Grandad's parents were Michal and Anna from Lwow (Galicia). His brother Jan -with whom he fell out- moved to somewhere close to Zielona Gora after the war, where we now have loads of distant cousins we dont know about. I'm learning Polish but it'll be a while yet before i can surf the web in Polish. Grandad wont tell anyone even what his mother's maiden name was, the stubborn Polak that he is. If you find anything out email me (simondyda -a-t- yahoo.es) -d-o-t- Hwyl!

Deborah Dyda: Re: dyda
My husband's grandfather was Wojcieck Dyda. His place of birth is listed as Austria, but in the town of Rozniaty, which I find is in Poland? His race/ethnicity and mother tongue are listed as Polish also. Haven't found any Dyda's in Austria. Documents also show his place of birth as Rozniaty, Galacia. He came to the US in 1912 and married a woman named Anna from Poland. Her grandfather was born in Lvov in 1819 but was a citizen in the city of Nowy Targ.

I am a little confused about the whole Austria, Poland, Galacia thing. hmmm....

A map of old Austria:

Being that your ancestor listed his mother tongue Polish than he was from historical region Galicia.

Birds of a feather fly together. Our ancestors married within same region, same religion [few exceptions] but for sure common language to communicate in and common tradition to observe.
Lvov is Lviv, Ukraine.
Nowy Targ, Poland

woj. małopolskie

Wojewodztwo Malopolskie also in historical Galicia/Austria.

I would suggest posting on Poland's Ancestry and Genforum boards as well.
