| InfernusUnguis: Searching for relative info | | I have two relatives from Lugos, Hungary. They are deceased of course. One is a great grandfather Oscar Emanuel:born 1889 and the other his wife from the same village Mary Berberich:born 1894. I have no information on their parents. Other than the seperate ship's manifests they immigrated to America on, and the information they gave on census records, I am at a loss. Mary claimed on her census records to be Magyar. Oscar served in the military and 'left' after 1910 to come to America. My great grandfather Oscar was killed in New York in 1975 during a mugging and I was quite young at the time. I did speak with my great grandmother and she talked guardedly about her upbringing in Lugos. She said they had a summer and a winter home and that all her brothers were killed in the first world war. Her parents sent her to America at age 14 as a servant to another family, to escape political unrest and save their last child. I was never told the other family's name and it has proven difficult to find on the manifest. Sorry I have no more information than that. I was told they were friends of Bela Blasko 'Lugosi' and there was a picture she kept of them together after coming to America. That is probably of no use though.
