w dugan: Fikinger
I am researching th family of Anton Fikinger who moved to America in 1909. He married Katnerina Ohl who also came from the same town. The town on the documents is Nagyszana. Any information on this is appreciated.

Zlatica : Re: Fikinger
There are 4 FIKINGERs listed on Ellis Island website.
Boy,is Anton's manifest really light and hard to make out the name of a town but there were others from this town and even FICKINGERs are from Nagyszan / NagyZsan.

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910

177 OHLs passed thru EI and some of them are also from Nagyszain/Nagyszana/Nagyszum. Katalin Ohl's manifest has that same name of a town and a word Temes which is Temes megye. This Nagyzsam and also South-West of it is Kiszsam are South of Temesvar passed the yellow and a brownish map on the old Temes megye map.

It seems the correct name is Nagyzsam and now Jamu Mare, Romania.
www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm is a good locator

The Romanian phone site is at :
www.whitepages.ro and a listing for OHL, Rodica in Timisoara's phone book.
