| Frei: Frei - Frey at Futok | Josef & Julia (Walters) Frey left Futog with their young family in 1910 and emigrated to Pigeon, Michigan (a farming area in Huron County at the top of the "Thumb" area.) Once there the family reverted to the traditional spelling of the name: Frei and began speaking english even at home. By the time their oldest son was an adult he could understand some German, but could not speak it.
Josef's parents were George and Mary (Fliegl) Frei. Other children of George and Mary were Magdelena, Frank, Andreas and Rosina. Another child named Magdelena died in infancy, as did another unnamed baby boy. These children were born between 1867 & 1879 according to their baptism records at the Catholic church at Ujfuttak. (I use many spellings of the name since it has been given in 3 or 4 languages, with as many as 3 spellings for each.)
