I have a relative whose father Emil John Filepp (name also spelled Fülöp, Filep) taught school around the time of the First World War in Hajdúdurog, which is very close to Hajduboszormeny. Emil John had a sister Silvia and a sister Eleanora. EJ's father was György Filepp, who had a brother whose name is unknown to us. Is there a possible connection?

Michelle:
If your father is John M and your mother is Kathleen, and your birthday is in January, then definitely YES!

Hi Michelle, sorry but we are not related. My mother's maiden name was definitely Fulop, and she grew up in Hajduboszormeny, but married and moved to Budapest when she was 19. I now know one of her brother's names was Geza and she had a sister, Sarolta. Sarolta married a Mate (not sure of his first name), and my mother's married name was Mod. I saw in one of the travel books on Hungary that there is a little burg called FILEP. Your family may have originally come from there?? hope your search is fruitful. Suzanne Mod Carl

Hi Michelle, Sorry, I typed my mother's last name wrong. It is definitely FULEP ZSUZSANNA, born in HAJDUBOSZORMENY on APRIL 9, 1914. MARRIED AT 19 - TO LOUIS MOD.

Sorry for the typo

Hi Michelle, nice to see you have an interest in the family history. Your great great grandfather was George which fits in with some of the earlier comments in this thread. The family history according to your great grandmother and great great aunt is that a civil engineer surnamed Philip or Phillip or some such was working on roads in Transylvania back in the 1840's or so, met a girl and decided to stay. This ancestor was supposedly German or Austrian. He allegedly changed his name to a variant of the local spelling (Filepp, Filep, Fulop) to fit in. His son was, I understand, George. George had 2 wives (he was a widower)and your great grandfather Emil John was the son of the first wife. If you're interested in this stuff we do have the tapes that your great grandmother and great aunt made describing this stuff. Give me a call sometime...hope all is well with you...uncle Bob.
