Hi,

I am Elizabeth Anne Galaczy my father was Andre Galaczy, I live in burlington Ontario canada and would like to reconcet with any family members I also have a brother Istvan Galaczy 2 sisters and a brother andrew. I would like to know more about the family history and my father who passed away 4 yrs ago. thank you

My name is Galaczy Zsolt, I live in Malmo, Sweden and I'm in frequent contact with our relatives in the home country Hungary and also Erdély (a.k.a. Transylvania, part of Romania since WW2). I am not 100% sure of that we are from the same family, because I didn't know that some of the Galaczy's emigrated to North America. One of my cousins, who also lives abroad (Hamburg, Germany), did some research on the Galaczy family history, so we know quite a lot about our history now. I have published some of her work on a family homepage, everything is not completely digitalised yet, but there is a good structure dating back app. 200 years from today.

As a remark I can add that there are a couple of variations of our surname, some of us spell the name Galaczy: "Galaczi", "Galatzi" or "Galaci" instead.

Feel free to contact me if you like, then I can give you the adress to the homepage and some more info!

Hi Elizabeth, my name is Anna and I was married to your older brother Andrew Galaczy but divorced from him in 1991. I tried keeping in touch with your sister Christiane but on my part it feels more like pulling teeth. I try to keep in touch with her but I guess life takes over her busy schedule. As for Andrew, I don't really know what happened to him and don't really care but I really liked your dad, he really also liked me. Janos: A Galaczy obituary

The Galaczi / Galaczy surname isn't a common one..., so with a bit of lucky you may connect all the arms. In Transilvania the Galaczy-es appears in Dees and Marosvasarhely area, this last could be of Zsolt, from Sajoudvarhely.

Carole Galaczy: Lost

Hello everybody,

I'm Carole Galaczy, I'm 26 and I live in France. My father (the Marie Galaczy's grandfather) is born the march 12th 1941 in Budapest.
His father was Galaczy Béla (1895/96 - 1952) and his mother was Gyurkovics Irèn (1921/25 - 1999). I know the names of his mother's mother but he doesn't know anything at all about the Galaczy Family. It was "taboo", like there was a secret and nobody spoke about.
My grandmother spoke about that with my mum few years ago and just said it was "bad".

???

I've recently found a "List of Historical Surnames of the Hungarian Nobility" where we can read the name "Galaczy"
What does it mean?

I don't know if all Galaczy's come from the same family but I try to understand .. it's not easy at all. I don't speak hungarian. My father left Budapest in 1956 when he was 15 (and he never came back) so he probably forgot a lot of things.
My grand mother remarried later and I have found cousins & cousines but that's all. No more informations.

If someone could help me ... thanks a lot.

Dear Carole,
"Galaci" and its grammar variations: Galaczi, Galaczy and Galatzi simply mean "from Galac". Galac (in Romanian Galati) is a town on Danube, before the Delta.
Was your question about the Hungarian Noble title?
