Zlatica : Re: Anyone?
You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research.

The first place I go and look is Ellis Island website. There were no Gibicser only GIBICZERs and GIBIZSERs that passed thru EI to America.

Zlatica : Re: Anyone?
Check Ellis Island website for the spelling GIBICAR, GABICAR,and GIBICER.
Hungary's phone site is listing GIBICSA'R. ( I do not have the appropriate keybord for diacritical markings.)

Why don't you write what data you have. How can I suggest without knowing what you know. A name of a town would be nice to know.

Skoumi: Re: Anyone?
I have some free time, so I'd like to tell you that my Gibicsar relation stems from Kadarkut (Southern part of Somogy county, Hungary) or its neighbourhood.
I also have found Gibicsars in the church records of Segesd, but I don't know, are they relations or not.
Today live some Gibicsars also in Southern Somogy, but not in this 2 cities.

I have only this infos, I hope I could help something...

Skoumi

I could start with search engines and websites but I am sure you have them.

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910
The town of Kadarkut falls into Somogy megye. There is a town of Segesd in Nagy-Kukullo megye and at present in Romania.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center)website is listing Roman Catholic and Reformed church records of Kadarkut. The site is also listing films from Alsosegesd's, Felsosegesd's films from Somogy's megye and from the Segesd that is now in Romania. So than you are looking in the films.
You would have to research the records as far as you can go until you come upon a common ancestor that would connect this two lines.

I checked in Ellis Island website for a Slavic spelling of GIBICSAR which would be GIBICAR and sure enough, there were 4 that passed thru that port. Maybe that is something too look into.

garami katalin: Re: Anyone?
Hi Everyone,

just want to add some info to`Gibicsar`. My father`s last name was Gibicsar till my granddad decided to change the name to Garami as he found it hard to always have to spell his name. My father was born in Hungary (Somogy county) near Csokonyavisonta. We also have relatives in Kadarkut and Görgeteg. I am curious to hear some infos from you and see whether we are related.
cheers Katalin Garami (Gibicsar)
