| Jay Friedman: Celia Gluck from Humenne | | I am looking for information on Celia Gluck, my mother's maternal grandmother. She was born in 1854 in Humenne (Humenau, Homonna), now in Slovakia, then in Zemplen County of Hungary (Austria-Hungary). Father worked as bailiff (estate manager) for a Count Ashkenazi. Orphaned in about 1869, she joined a group of relatives who made their way to Glasgow, Scotland, where she remained some time. She left for New York on a sailing ship in 1870 where she spend the rest of her life, dying in Dec. 1941. |
