You need a name of a village. Do you know it?
Hungary's phone site is at :
http://tudakozo.matav.hu
www.matav.hu/tudakozo

www.rat.de/kuijsten/navigator
http://vivisimo.com
www.imrehun.com

There were 4 GRANYAKs that passed thru Ellis Island to America. Any one of them related to you?

Rita: Re: looking for my hungarian family
You most likely need to look in Kiskunhalas city.Look for Granyák Pál. It is a very unusual name, not common at all.Your grandfather's name perhaps was Granyák István and was missplelled when he came to America. On MATAV on-line directory you can look up all the places with that name. Something might click in your head to remember more details.

Leo

There are towns with the word ALMA in them but no Yano, not good spelling and it might be Janos as in John.
So than there is a Janoshalma in Bacs-Bodrog megye.

The old megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910

There seems to be surname GRANYAK Jozsef listing in the Janoshalma's phone book. Possible relative?

Granyák: Re: looking for my hungarian family

Dear Leo!

I am Iren Granyák. My father is Pál Granyák,who is a hungarian grammar,-literature and history teacher in Kiskunhalas,in one of the local Secondary Grammar schools. His parents and grandparents came from Tataháza. His grandfather had 2 brothers ( Mihály and Pál) and 2 sisters (Ida and Ilona). We live in Kiskunhalas now. We know about a Granyák family from Jánoshalma. But we haven't got in touch with them. If you could write something more about your forebears, maybe we could help you.
