Vivian: GRUNVALD/GRUNWALD
Attached is a picture of Bela and Imre GRUNVALD/GRUNWALD, my father's first cousins, with their mother Lina (Karolina) or Luisza MOSKOVITS. They may have lived in Homonna. Bela may have become a doctor. He died in the Labor Battalion. Imre (Emerich) was living in Bratislava and working for the Slovak Milling Company in 1946. His mother survived the war and was living in Michalovce as recently as 1949. Please contact me if you have information.

Here's a picture of Imre Grunvald and his mother taken sometime after WWII when he was living in Bratislava. I am seeking information about Imre (Emerich). Did he marry and have a family? Any leads will be appreciated.

Zlatica : Re: GRUNVALD/Bratislava
The phone book only has phone numbers, no zip code there.
Here is a website for SK's zip code.

www.slovenskaposta.sk

The zip code goes before a name of a town.
Example of a good address:

Name
Sklenarova 4
821 09 Bratislava 2
Slovak Republic

The English version not working yet but : click on On-line services, then on Postcodes, Postcodes towns.

Keresem a kapcsolatot a mulidran csaladro. A nevem Laszlo Mulidran, Slovakiabon szulettem (Ladmovce/Ladmoc), most Magyar Orszagbon elek, Komaromban. No STRELEC in Vyborna, STRELCOVA (female) in Podolinec. Same area code 052.
www.zoznamst.sk
www.vyborna.sk
The mayor of Vyborna is Frantisek STRELA.
Church records would be a way to go for ancestral information. Possible that the surname evolved from Strelec to Strela.

astrelick

If your ancestor was born in Vyborna, better put baptised in Vyborna than he should show up. Maybe you should go for Slovenska Ves's church records. The village is just down the road from Vyborna. I have a feeling that the present inhabitants might have changed the surname to STRELA. Why? STRELA in Lendak, Vyborna and Slovenska Ves. All of the 3 villages mentioned on one road with Lendak being 5.5 km West from Vyborna. Possible that STRELEC family came from someplace else to settle in Vyborna. This is only a phone book location observation.

Vivian: Re: GRUNVALD/GRUNWALD
I am happy to report that I found my second cousin Eva Grunvald Malina living in Switzerland. Eva's uncle Bela and her father Imre were born in Homonna. Their parents were Jeno GRUNVALD and Karolina MOSKOVITS. Karolina was my paternal grandmother's youngest sister. Eva's parents were deported from Bratislava but survived. Bela died in the Labor Battalion. Eva believes that her grandmother Karolina was perished in the Kosice ghetto where the Jewish residents of Humenne were imprisoned before they were deported to Auschwitz. We have not been able to find Karolina's name on any lists of Holocaust victims.

astrelick: Re: Sztrelecz Family
Thanks. I have been reviewing Evangelical church records for Vyborna, but they only go back to 1830. Can't find church records for Lendak or Slovenska Ves in the MOrmon films. They were larger towns and must have had Evangelical churches. Any suggestions?

Your welcome.

Bill Tarkulich updated the church records in his site www.iabsi.com/gen/public
Did you look thru the fiche LDS #6000786
Some villages had no church; some only Roman Catholic or Evangelical. Have you tried Spisska Bela or Kezmarok?

How can I find out if any male member of my ancestors served in the Hungarian/Austrian military from 1830, or earlier, to 1918. The family is Sztrelecz or Strelecz from Vyborna. Thank you.
