Steven Haidinger: Surname Haidinger

My name is Steven Norman Haidinger, born March 2, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. My father was Alois Stephen Haidinger, born in Kenosha Wisconsin in 1916. I am searching for informantion on the origin of the Surname Haidinger.

Hello!!! How exciting to see your surname!!! I am the great grand-daughter of Martin and Eva Haidinger from Wels, Austria. They had a family of 13 children , and I wonder if we are related as I am sure that surname would not be a common one. If you think we may be, contact me back and I shall ask more details from my mother. She was the only child of Martha Haidinger, one of the 13 children of Martin and Eva. Dear Pythia:

Thank you for writing and telling me about Martin and Eva Haidinger. My father Alois Stephen Haidinger was born the son of John Haidinger who immigrated from Alsace Lorriane France in 1898 to the U.S.A.

I have photographs of my grandfather with his four boys (circa) 1930 if that would be any help. I know my father spoke only German until he went to school. His mother was American who died during the Great Flu epidemic of 1918 when he was 0ne year old.

hello steven, My grandmother spoke also fluent german and married a dutchman and lived in holland. I do not know of a descendant called john haidinger. We shall keep searching,

Thank you for the information on Haidinger family. I found a listing of John Haidinger on a manifest list at Ellis Island, 1905. Apparently he showed that his nation of birth was Alsace-Lorrane (between France and Germany). I have found many people with the Haidinger surname in and around Vinenna Austria. I am led to understand that the surname Haidinger means a person who gives sanctuary.
