Marcus: Herbath
Hello

Father Victor Herbath came to UK in 1957, died when I was 7 in 1978. Born Szarvas, I do not know of any relatives in Hungary and plan to visit to search.

Hello Margit, sorry for delay in response, completely forgot I had posted this. I have found a Shonie Herbath in Australia, owns a watch shop which you can find via google. There are others whom I have wriiten to, including Shonie and had no response! I think in todays climate people are cautious of anything they are unsure about.

Did your dad come from Szarvas?

Best Regards
Marcus.

I emailed Shonie a few years ago as well but he did not have any info about his Dad's family.
My Dad is from Budapest,I will ask him if he has any info. (We are visiting there in June)

Great!
My Dad (Kalman II)told me his Dad (Kalman I) was from a village called Papa Kovacs (sp?) in that Szarvas area and that Kalman I's father was killed in Fiume in WWI when he was 11 so he didn't have much family info. Kalman I had brother Karoly (Charles)He said we can go to that village when we visit and get more info because there are still cousins there. If you'd like to email me direct my address is crafty29 -a-t- hotmail -d-o-t- com

Hey Marcus!
I just got back from the Hungarian adventure (was great!)but we were so busy we didn't get a chance to go to Szarvas or any other little villages. The only additional info I was able to get was that my great-grandfather's name was Sigmund Herbath,

Herbat Hajnalka
Hi Herbaths!

I'm very happy that my brother (Péter) has found this site. It is very funny read your messages from Hungary, exspecially because in this little country we know only two Herbat families, we and one in Bakonygyirót.
Our name is just Herbat without "h", because it was a little administration problem with my grandparents wedding, so we lost the "h".
My Herbat family came from Hungary, from the area Dunántúl, and the area from Pápa (Nagyacsád, Marcaltő).
My grandfather's grandfather was in the USA in the beginning of 1900 years.
Any relation? What about your family Margith? (My grandmother's name is Margit too. :) )

Hello Herbats!
This is very interesting - maybe we are cousins from way back from the Papa area. I wish I knew more about the family but unfortunately after my grandfather Kalman passed away there is nobody left who know any family history on that side. All I really know is what is in the messages above,
Margit

jozsef: Re: Herbats
My great grandmother's name was Herbath Borbála (died 1883). She married with Csendes József (died 1894). Their son Csendes Joakim (1860-1936)was my grandfather. They lived in Pápóc (Szentmiklósfalva), Vas county, not far from to Pápa.
Sorry I haven't more info about the Herbaths.

Hi Margit

Spoke with my sister and my fathers parents were called Joszef and Elizabeth and his younger brother was Michael who died at the end of the war. Elizabeth and Joszef are buried in Szarvas and have headstones bearing their names.

I'll email this to you but put it on here in case it rings any bells with others looking. Speak soon.
