I thought I had replied to your message at the time, but it turns out straight replies don't work. Below is a summary of my own Herschdoerfer connections and what I learned from others on this forum. If you want, contact me directly via email at halasz -a-t- att -d-o-t- net
Dear Eva,
You may also be interested in my ancestry discussed below.
===============
So briefly, my grandfather Hugo Herschdoerfer was born in the 1890's in Fogaras, Transylvania, then Hungary (now Fagaras, Romania). He was the son or grandson of an immigrant from Russia.
He had a number of siblings, some of them emigrated to Brasil in the 1930's; notably, Alexander (Sandor) who is the grandfather of Elis, one of the other people who posted on this board.
My family lived in Transylvania through WWII when they were deported and my grandfather was killed. I grew up in Bucharest, Romania and moved to the US in 1993.
There seems to be at least one other branch of Herschdoerfers, who came straight out of Russia/Poland, to which we have no known family connection.
If you google for the name, you will find a number of people in Europe, for instance an editor in Holland.
If you would like to communicate further use my email: halasz -a-t- att -d-o-t- net
Best, and happy holidays to all Herschdoerfers and non Herschdoerfers.
