Do you have a place of birth? A map of Austria-Hungary:
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm
Possible they came from historical region Galicia which was under Austria's control since you say " came from Poland.
Your "americanized" surname Cudnick might be Kudnik. In 1990 census of names there were 27 HONCZs, 123 LEONARDs and 3 KUDNIK in Poland. Take a look in Ellis Island website at the HONCZs and KUDNIK manifest for any clues.
These two sites might be of help in your research.

Joyce: Re: Honcz
There are three brothers that we know of. Martin, Gregor and Blazej Honcz. The manifest when they sailed to America shows they left Sambor, Austria-Hungary during the time frame of 1895 to 1903. This was in Galicy territory I believe. They moved to the Ukraine due to illness in the town they lived in. Later, after the war, they were ordered by Russians to move west. They went to Wraclow, Poland. One of the Honcz elders was the train station manager in Sambor. Perhaps this info will help to identify them.

Galicy is Galicia www.halgal.com
A detailed old map :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/3felmeres.htm On this map Szambir is Sambor/Sambir and now in Ukraine.
The LDS-Mormons website is listing church records but only for the military personnel. I would recommend that you post on Ukraine's Ancestry and Genforum for a much better help in research. I found Maran (Marcin) HONCZ coming thru EI in 1903 and going to a brother Grzegora ? HONC?
HANOZ (HONCZ)Franz,Grogor,Ladislaws,Regina and Stanislaws arriving in 1898 going to Kingston, Pa to a brother Wladyslaw Honcz Blazej. There is a Wroclaw in Poland not Wraclow. Surname HONC shows up in Wroclaw's phone book.

Donna,

Gregor and Regina were my great grandparents. I grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut. My family is trying to trace the Hunts, Huntz, Honcz family as well.

These posts have helped fill in aome gaps. Have you been able to find out any more of the family history?

Joyce: Re: Honcz
Hi Tommy There are Honcz family members listed in the Wroclaw phone book. I believe that is where the Honcz members went when they had to leave Sambor. I don't know any additional information about the family. There are many variations on the name. I only have the names of Martin, Gregor and Blazej who are the brothers that came to the US to leave. Martin returned to Poland.
