Sharron Wills: Ihasz family from Vaszar
I'm trying to locate any information about the family of my great-grandfather [Jozsef Ihasz] who emigrated to USA about 1900.He was born about 1868 and was married to Frances [Franciska?] Kaifes [Keifes?]. Their two sons [Jozsef and Mihaly] were left behind in Hungary with their maternal grandparents until the boys came to the USA in 1902 -- Jozsef was eleven and Mihaly was seven in 1902. They all lived in Belmont County, Ohio [Bridgeport or Bellaire] across the Ohio River from Wheeling, West Virgina. IHASZ name was changed to EHASZ. Two additional children were born in USA -- Rose in about 1900 and Stephen [Steve] in 1902. Jozsef and sons [and their wives and children] moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area in the mid-late 1920's.
Any information about IHASZ or KAIFES families would be appreciated!!

Sharron

The LDS-Mormons website is listing church records of Vaszar. You can order them and gather ancestral information. www.bmi.net/jjaso to familiarize yourself with church wording.
A first name translation website : www.fam.aust.com/topolcsany/names
Hungary's phone site : www.matav.hu/tudakozo/index_e.html
Ehasz in English comes out as Ihasz in the "old country".
Check Ellis Island for KAIFES, KAIFAS, KAYFES,KEIFES,and IHASZ.
You need to register but no money. www.ellisislandrecords.org
After you register, use www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html This way you will locate that from Vaszar : IHASZ, Gergely and Zsigmond

lspatny: Re: Ihasz family from Vaszar
My great grandmother was your great grandmother's sister. Her name was Elizabeth Keifes. She was born in 1879. I am not sure when she came over, but she married a Denis Vincze in 1904 in Belmont County. I have info on the Ehasz's. Joseph and Francisca(Fanny) had 4 children. MIke had three children- Margaret, Bobby and another daughter who became a nun. Steve married a Mary. He died Dec 1981. Joseph the other son had several children.I found most of this info in the Cleveland obituraries. The 1910 Belmont County census shows that Francisca came to US in 1898 nad Joseph came in 1896. Their son Joseph was married to a Barbara(Berry)who also lived with them at that time. Many of the Ehasz's attended my father's funeral in 1964 which was in Parma Oh. Let me know if you would like any other info.

Sharron Wills: Re: Ihasz family from Vaszar
Thanks for the information!

I remember the Vincze name from my childhood, but was never sure just how/if we were related. I’ve had a difficult time tracing Francisca through Ellis Island records [ship manifests were handwritten and Ihasz was often read/recorded as Thasz].

My branch of the Keifes line can get very confusing. My grandfather [Mike] and his older brother [Joseph] married two Horvath sisters -- Teresa and Barbara [Berry]. Some of their children were pretty close in age and were more like siblings rather than cousins, so I grew up calling them “aunt” and “uncle”.

Joseph and Berry had seven children -- Ann, Joseph, Elizabeth [“B”], George, Velma [Val], Mary [Mae] and Paul William [Bill]. All are deceased.

Mike and Teresa [some called her Aunt Teresie] had 4 children – Marguerite, Helen, Robert [you referred to him as Bobby] and Jean [Sister Jean – she’s 72 and the only one still alive]. I’m one of Robert’s daughters.

I live in the Cleveland area and would love to share any information with you.

If my information about my Grandfather Mike was correct -- that he and Joseph were left behind in Hungary with their maternal grandparents when Francisca came to the US -- then I have a photograph, taken in Hungary, of your great-great grandparents. I assume Francisca brought it with her when she came in 1898. The boys would have been about 8 and 4 -- the ages look about right on the enclosed photo.

For lspatny -- I've registered with this forum so you can contact me by email [I think you need to click on my profile]. Thanks for letting me know that Francisca was known as Fanny as I've found both Fanny and Elizabeth in Ellis Island records. Your great-g'mother was listed as Elisabeth Hayfes and mine as Fanny Itasz. They came to the US together on Sept. 7, 1898. I'm looking forward to hearing from you! Sharron

For Sharon--I clicked on your profile but was not able to contact you by email. I wanted to make a correction. Elizabeth Keifes was actually my grandmother and Lizzie Koscis and Alex Keifes were my great grandparents. Elizabeth Keifes and Denis Vincze were married in Belmont County in 1904. They had 6 children, one being my father Edward Vince. His godparents were Joseph and Barbara Ehasz. What kind of information are you looking for? Thanks for the Ellis Island info, I'll have to check that out.

Hi, Lisa -- thanks for responding. I have a photo of my grandfather Mike's family taken in about 1909 and his mother [Fanny] has always been a mystery to me. She died before they came to Cleveland [I remember seeing a photo of her headstone in Belmont County] and I was hoping to learn more about her and her family. You've been a great help -- I've learned her parents' names now, and was able to track down her Ellis records since you let me know she was known as Fanny. I'd appreciate any information you might have about Fanny and Elizabeth.
I'm enclosing the photo -- Back row: Joseph, Barbara & Mike.
Front row: Steve, Joseph, Fanny & Rose. Thought you might like to see a photo of your father's godparents. Thanks for sharing! Sharron

Hello there,

Just to add the link to the Ihász family lines from Vaszar mentioned by Sharron and András: Jozsef (born 1868, on Sharron's tree) and Gábor (born 1862, on András' tree) were brothers.

Happy researching,

Janos Bogardi / Radix.

kylemoore27: Ihasz--Vaszar!
Hello,

I am descended from the Ihasz family from Vaszar. I'm sure the family comes togather at some point going back in the history. My Ihasz's include my 4th great-grandma, Julianna Ihasz (born 1829) her parents were Mihaly Ihasz and Julianna Szemes. Mihaly was born 1798 and his parents were Janos Ihasz and Anna Horvath. I currently have the Vaszar church records and can look up some names if anyones interested. Hopefully we can connect some of these Ihasz's!

ballada: Ihász Dániel családja
Üdvözletem! Arra lennék kíváncsi, talán tudja valaki, hogy Ihász Dániel honvédezredes családjának van-e valamilyen kapcsolata a "Nagy Iván"-ban (pótlék kötet 284. o.) szereplő Ihász családdal?
Ihász Dániel első általam ismert őse Imre/János, felesége Kalmár Éva, születésük ideje ismeretlen. 1771-ben született Imre, 1779-ben Sándor fiuk, utóbbi gyermeke Dániel (anyja: Nagy Erzsébet).

dansher: Can't find Gábor
Janos, I can't find Gábor Ihász [born 1862] anywhere. I found my G-Gfather Jozsef [born 15 Oct 1868] parents' names [Jozsef Ihász and Rose Kernya] and discovered that he had a brother, Stephen [Ehasz], born 06 Dec 1858 in Hungary who died in Youngstown Ohio on 10 Oct 1933. There's such a gap between the birthyears of these three brothers [1868, 1862, 1858] it makes me think there must have been other siblings in this family [usually there was a child born every two years or so]. Can you give me any suggestions of where to search, please? Thank you -- Sharron
