| Jasztrab: Re: Jasztrab | Zlatica,
Thank you for the message!
My father Miklos Jasztrab aged 17 came to Canada on the Steamship Aquitania in 1948, with a sister Olga aged 11 and a brother Jozsef aged 15.
They were born in Sajoszentpeter, Borsod. Another brother stayed behind with his Grandmother.
Their father was named Janos Jasztrab. He was killed in the military prior to 1948, but I don't know when.
Their mothers maiden name was Susanna Benedek. I do not know any relatives she had in Hungary or Canada.
She had imigrated to London, England after the death of her husband and remarried a British soldier named Bill Giguere who was originally from France. They moved to Canada, then the Hungarian Red Cross assisted them in bringing the three children, Miklos, Jozsef, and Olga.
I have searched all telephone directories in Canada and the US, but cannot find any listings records for any other Jasztrabs coming to Canada or US. All listings in Canada for Jasztrab are my siblings. I have six sisters and six brothers.
I have searched all records in the US and found a Jasztrab in Philadelphia, but have not yet found an e-mail address for him.
I was able to find a Maria Jasztrab-Then at the Institute of Pharmacognosy, at Universitas, Budapestinensis, De Semmelweis, Nominata in Budapest and corresponded with her for a short period of time years ago. Her father-in-law had the same name and came from the same town as my father. Unfortunately, the e-mail address I had for her no longer works.
I should have posted this information originally, but came across this web-site by accident and didn't have this information until I went through Dads records. He died in 1995.
Thank you again for your message.
Sincerely,
Nick
