| shantelle: Re: Ancestry | Hi Connie, Im researching also and came across your post, Janos (John) Kerek and Rosalia Jezso are my husband's great great grandparents. The info i have on them is as follows: Janos (John) Kerek b.Nov.22, 1849 in Elloszallas, Dunafoldvar, Hungary, d.1929, wife: rosalia Jeszo b.March 8, 1859 in Austria-Hungary, d.1918
children: Stephen b.1876 (Hungary), Frank b.1883 (Hungary), Joseph b.1890(Hungary), Imre (Henry) b.1892 (Hungary), Thomas (Antal) b.1897 (Manitoba, Canada), Rosaria b.1899 (Manitoba, Canada), Jack (my husbands great grandpa) b.1901 (Alberta, Canada), Louis b.1905 (Alberta, canada)
Janos (John) Kerek, Rosalia, Frank, Joseph and Imre (Henry) immigrated to Canada in 1895 and 1896. They left Stephan Kerek in Hungary (reason unknown)Stephan was born in 1876 and died in Hungary July 24, 1912. It is not known if he had a family.
It appears Janos (John) Kerek immigrated by himself and his family followed the next year. I found the ship he immigrated on. He was 46 years old at the time, he arrived in Quebec from Hamburg on 1895/06/20 on the ship called Hispania (ref#RG76, Microfilm C-4540 if you want to look at it online through archives canada)
Hope this helps and please let me know if you find out anything else about them, or further back in the ancestry :)
