Marianne
Hello Hungary.
I know I have distant relatives somewhere out there, maybe near Budapest but thats just a guess. My Uncle was Sandor Kis or Kiss and he was born in Terezovac Suhoplje but the family moved to Kaposvar in or around 1920's. Someone in the family writes to someone in Szolnok but getting them to answer my letter when I don't know any Hungarian is very difficult. So anyone who's grandparents or great grandparents were Caroline Kovacs and Joseph Kiss (they were mine) please get in contact. Have been looking for you for years.

I have a Terezia KIS married to Janos GASPAR in 1831 in Apa, Szatmar (now Satu Mare, Romania.

Also, a Antal KIS married to Rozalia RACZ in Szentmarton, Szatmar. Rozalia was born in 1754 so assume that Antal's birth year was approximately the same.

Any connections to either of these KIS families?

Marianne: Somogygeszti
Hello - am getting emails from someone called David via this site - sadly its all in Hungarian and I am unable to read it as I cannot speak or read Hungarian. Its such a pain and I wish I could. If anyone out there has any connections or doing any family tree research concerning Somogygeszti or Geszti as it is now called I would love to hear from you. Am trying to find email address of birth marriages and death records office in Mernye, Hungary - can anyone help a researcher from England. Best wishes Marianne.

Marianne: Family Research
Researching the Kovacs's from Babosca in Hungary. My Grandmother Karolin Kovacs was born in Babosca on 17.4.1871. I am compiling the family tree and I would love to be able to get her birth certificate but have no idea how I go about this. Her mother was Terez Kiss (nee Toth) and her father was Istvan Kovacs. In future I am hoping to get information about them as well. Is there any way a person from England can get any information or help -I would be so very grateful. Is there anyone out there who may have a family connection - that would be wonderful. Marianne Coleman

Marianne: The village of Edde in Somogy County, Hungary
Does anyone who looks at these pages know anything at all about the small hamlet of Edde - at least I think it is very small. My Great Grandfather was a Shepherd there I believe and I wonder if there are any of the older generations that still live there who know a little of the past or anyone who can tell me anything about it at all. Does it have a church or do people got to Geszti to church? Have computers reached there yet? Thank you Marianne

Marianne,
Although I visited the closeby Somogyvár last year -the Hungarian historical memorial Kupavár is located there, third after Opusztaszer and Mohács- I didn't stop in Edde. I'll go again this year and will look around. I gathered a few information for you.

Per the 1900 Census, the R.Cath. Church was in Osztopán, the Reformed in Jád/ today called Somogyjád, also Seat of the Civil Registration District. All the Vital records are available for research at LDS/FHLC: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp

In 1900, the Population was 690 in 70 houses, in 2005 247 in 98.
I'll read the village website, and give you a summary if don't know Hungarian: http://www.somogy.hu/edde/

Marianne: Re: The village of Edde in Somogy County, Hungary
Thank you so much - sorry for the delay in replying - so many papers to look through etc. Nothing about Edde at all and I just wonder where all the birth records have gone. I have tried the archives in Kaposvar and they have no records of my family at all in Edde but I am 99.9% that my Grandfather Joseph Kiss was born there. Many thanks for trying to help. Marianne

Marianne: Family of Parrogi, Szekeres,Kovacs, Horonitz and Kiss
I am searching for relatives of ADAM KISS married to ORZSEBETH PARROGI in early 1800's? also for ISTVAN KOVACS married to TEREZIA SZEKERES again around 1800's. Next looking for relatives of FERENCE KISS married to ANNA HORONITZ around 1830/40's. The relatives of ISTVAN KOVACS married to TEREZIA TOTH around 1840's. Lastly (for the moment) relatives of JANOS ORBAN married to ETELKA KOVACS who married in Rinya. I believe they may have all lived in the Somogy County but anm not too sure about that. These are ancestors of the Kiss family from Somogy county. Any information would be wonderful. Many thanks - Marianne

Marianne: Hungarian POW
I am searching for the 'final destination' of a family member who was a Hungarian Jew taken prisoner in or around 1942/43. I believe he was held somewhere in Hungary before being sent to ............ where we do not know. Does anyone know of the names of the camps where such prisoners were held possibly near to Budapest. I think this family memember lived near Budapest! Any names of the various camps would be appreciated and I can then hopefully locate where he was first held. Where would the names of the prisoners captured be held - would there be a list somewhere in Hungary and if so where? Any suggestions as to how to go about searching for this gentleman would be much appreicated. I am looking at a blank page at the moment apart from a name. Thank you Marianne
