Ginger: Re: az nincs
I do not know much about our name. I think my great grandfather Andrew (or Andras) moved from Vacz Hungary to Woodbridge, New Jersey, US in 1903 and his brother Istvan followed him out here about a year later. The only family out here that I know is from the Andras line. I have not been able to locate anyone from Istvan's side. If you do a search for Koblasz on this site, you'll see we have a couple who came out this way http://www.ellisislandrecords.com/.

We have no idea were Koblasz came from originally but find it curious that Andras only spoke Russian and Hungarian. Why Russian?

What do you know about the name?

Regards,
Ginger

Ginger: Re: az nincs
Oops, I had it all wrong. My great-grandfather John Ambrus Koblasz was born October 06, 1882 in Puspok Szilagy, Pest, Hungary. John's father was Andrew Koblasz. That's where I got confused. I'm not sure how the Andras/Istvan that are listed in the Ellis Island records are related but my grandfather remembers an Uncle Steve (or Istvan)...

I hope the translation is not too difficult for you!

Best,
Ginger
