Dee: Koos surname
I have a postcard with a picture of the Catholic Church, town hall & an old roll steam mill in Kubekhaza, Torontal, Hungary. My husband's grandfather was Theodore(Tivador) Koos. We thought he was from Budapest but found this postcard in with some pictures. Would appreciate any help in finding where he was really from. He was b.24Dec1884 & lived in N.Y. & Toledo, Ohio, where he passed away 15May1951. Have not much on him. Thank you. Dee Spaulding

Zlatica : Re: Koos surname
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 click on Torontal

www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm (mapquest)

The town of Kubekhaza is very close to Romania's border, 109.1 miles SSE of Budapest.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing a Roman Catholic church records for Kubekhaza in Torontal megye.
You can order the church films and gather ancestral information.

143 KOOSs passed thru Ellis Island. Possible that some other family members might be there.

If your ancestor had social security numbers or was naturalized citizen than those forms would provide important information.
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com

The Hungarian phone site is listing some KOOSs and KOOSZs.

Koos Bálint: Re: Koos surname
Dear Dee,

I've to admit that my post is not an answer to your question. The surname Koos is fairly common in Hungary and I ask if anybody has information about the Koos families in Kisterenye (country Nograd, northern part of Hungary.)
Best regards,
Balint

Ternei Gyula (Mr): Re: Koos surname
Dear Dee Spaulding,

My grandmother's mother was Jolentha (Joly) Koos.
I am looking for my family. In the National Archives of Hungary there are parish registers in microfilms.

I could find:
20.Dec. 1884. Ada (city) TIVADAR Augustenis KOOS
Father: Andreas Koos r.k. (roman chatolic) Mother: Sophia Konyovics gr.o. (greek orthodox)
Before first world war Ada belonged to Hungary, after to Yugoslavia. I should mention that Koos family can be found a lot of places in Hungary.

Could you help me, I metioned Jolentha Koos, 15 juni 1879 Ada,(father Andreas Koos mother Josepha (Sophia) Konyovics) she emigrated to the USA in 1899-1900(?)She had a Hungarian restaurant perhaps in Cleveland. She died 1935(?)
How can I found any information about her?

Best regards,
Gyula TERNEI

Ternei Gyula: Re: koós
Kedves Mariann!

Létezik az ELTE-n a Nyelvészeti Tanszéken (Intézetben) családnév kutató csoport.Őket kellene megkérdezni, biztos tudják.
Ha van eredmény, érdekel.
Üdv:
Gyula
