theresa : My family name
My name is Theresa Kosztics, and my father is hungarian and came from Turda Romania in the early 30's to Portland Oregon USA. I am just researching for our name on the internet. I have not found anyone in the US with the last name Kosztics except my imediate family and cousins.

ellie: Re: Kosztics = Kositch ?

Theresa -

Transliterations into English have given me so many puzzle pieces . . . please read my search page at http://www.Kositch.US

Might you agree that KOSZTICS could be yet another transliteration for my g-father’s name: GYORGII KOSIC’ (translated from Cyrillic -- Old Slavonic – Greek Orthodox christening entry).

G-father was born in Medina (Tolna), Hungary: May 1878.

Thank you.

Jakester765: Re: My family name
Hi, my grandmothers maiden name is "Kostic" and her grandfather and grandmother were from Hungary. I'm pretty sure that he was actually born in Turkey but with Hungarian and maybe slavic and serbian ethnic back round. I've also looked up the surname multiple times and found nothing! By the way, I found my great, great grandfathers name on Ellis Island. com as Gergerly Kosztics, even though his name was actually spelled Gregor Kostic. I would really like to find someone who could help with finding more info about the surname and it's history. :)

Is this your ancestor's arrival manifest?
Kosztics, Gergely 31 1872 1903 His last residence is Budapest and he considered himself Servian.
If your ancestor was naturalized citizen than his naturalization intent and petition would have his place of birth.
The KEY to the research is a location, location, location. You need to know where he was born.

Jakester765: Re: My family name
Yes, that's him, and he was originally born in Turkey according to ancestry.com. Even though he was born in Turkey though, he was Serbian/Hungarian/Slavic of some sort. I contacted my great uncle and he told me that Gegerly Kosztics parents were killed by the Turks. That's basically I know about him. I do know that his wife was a Hungarian Jew and stuff, but that's it. I wish I could help more but I'm still looking for info.
