partygator: Krajnik
I am searching for European relatives of Mary Suzanne Krajnik (not sure of spelling) Kuban. She married my grandfather, Joseph Kuban. In 1901 she emigrated to the U.S. I do not know if she was married to Joseph when she emigrated. She is from Udavske. While she was married to Joseph, she bore 11 children. Eight of them grew to adults. I would be her granddaughter. She died in Pennsylvania in the 1940-1945 time frame. Cancer. She is buried in Linesville, Pennsylvania, USA. Thank you, Pat

Your welcome. Check out http://genforum.com and
www.ancestry.com/share www.iarelative.com among other boards.
Surname KRAJNIK lists in area code 57 but none in Udavske. Nothing negative. People are opting for a cell phone and have the house phone line disconnected.

Zlatica : Re: Kuban
Pat

If your ancestors married in the "old country" than the villages would be 10 miles radius of each other.
If they married in the "new country" than they could be from any region. Take a look in Ellis Island website. www.ellisislandrecords.org There were 136 KUBANs, 40 KUBANYs and 7 KUBANIs. You might find your ancestor's manifest.

Cannot find ANY manifest. I know they were married in the USA. In my grandfather's handwriting he states he is from Steruse and my grandmother is from Udavske. They came to USA in 1901 on the same ship. Not sure if they knew each other at that time, though. Do not know name of ship or port of departure or exact port of entry (New York somewhere).

It is possible that they came thru other port and not Ellis Island. Were they naturalized citizens? The port and date they entered would be on the naturalization petition. Did you try to locate a manifest with www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html
Don't just look for the name of a village as Udavske but as Udva, Udawszke, Udwa. The village of Steruse seems like it might be Sterusy. They are in different regions of SK.
Coming thru EI in 1903 a KUBAN Stefan from Sterusz but he is married so can not be your ancestor.

Hailey Kuban: Re: Hortobágyfalvi Krajnik József
Hi. i'm not sure if we are all talking about the same person, but my great grandfather was Joseph Kuban. I'm not really sure how many kids they had, but one of their sons is my grandfather. Frank Kuban. He then married Patricia Denzin and had five daughters. including my mother Cheryl Kuban. I've found out from my mother that my great grandfather had come from Slovakia. I'm not exactly sure where. But i am trying to find out as much information on Joseph Kuban and his wife. I would love to know exactly what percent of each heritage i am. thanks everyone.

Did he have social security numbers?
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
Was he naturalized citizen? Those are just few of many places to look for place of birth.
The Slovak Republic's phone book is listing surname KUBAN.
www.zoznamst.sk type a 0 (zero) in area code to get all phone listings for a certain name.

RE: KUBAN My grandfather (John Joseph) was from Steruse in Slovakia. According to a family tree in my possession (but not commissioned by me), JJ had 2 sisters and 3 brothers, Stefan, Ludvig and Peter. JJ lived in Pittsburgh (PA) at first, then moved to Linesville (PA) and had a dairy farm for many years. I don't know about Stefan or Peter, but Ludwig also emigrated to the U.S. and I have met some of his descendants (my cousins, whatever "removed"--I can't figure that out). Tell me about your research and maybe we can find some common ground. Thanks, Pat
