Zlatica : Liszony
16 LISZONYs passed thru Ellis Island to America.
Most of them are from Also repas, Felso repas, and Locse.
All the three villages are in present Slovak Republic and called respectively Nizne Repase, Vysne Repase and Levoca.
Even the 5 LISZON were from Alsorepas and Locse.

http://mapy.atlas.sk for location of the towns
www.zoznamst.sk Slovak Republic's phone site
A Slovak spelling of Liszony LISON' lists in Levoca and Nizne Repase.

You will need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed with the research.

Graban: Re: Liszony
Looking for information on my husbands Grandfather. John Leeson (spelling of name may have been changed when he came to this country) from Repas, born January 17, 1893. His mother was Katherine and we were told that her death certificate lists her fathers last name as Liszony. John came to the US to find his mother who had left him to be raised by her parents. She has married here and he didn't have much contact with her. We don't know much more that that as he would never talk about it.

Graban

Surname LISON^ exists in Nizne Repase, Slovak Republic phone book. www.zoznamst.sk
The LDS-Mormons website is listing church records of Vysne Repase and Nizne Repase. You can order the films and gather ancestral information.
Take a look in Ellis Island website. www.ellisislandrecords.org there are LISZONs and LISZONYs.
The spelling LISZON and LISZONY would be Hungarian and LISON^ in Slovak.
John would have come thru Ellis Island, if he came thru EI as Janos. A first name translation website:
www.fam.aust.com/topolcsany/names
www.iabsi.com/gen/public all there for research in SK.
There is a Janos LISZONY arriving in 1907, left behind a mother Katalin Liszony in Alsorepas, Szepes m.Hungary.
