Marody: geneaology research
Any help in finding the origin of the Marody/i family would be greatly appreciated. I found many at the Ellis island web site and it appears that most Marody/i came from in and around Hungary. Thanks in advance.

You need to locate a precise place of birth among the US documents. Is one of the MARODI/MARODY in EI site your ancestor?

Marody: Re: geneaology research
Yes, a Peter Marody, who I believe came over with the name Jura in 1905 from "Hungaria" is my husbands great-grandfather.
However, in the 1920 census he lists his place of birth as Austria and language as 'Ruth.' and in 1930, he listed his place of birth as Czechoslovakia. Unfortunately I cannot find anyone alive that has any accurate recollection of him. Thank you for the site addresses.

Marody

Did you find his 1905 manifest? It should have his place of birth or last residence.
Up to 1918 the records would say Austria or Hungary.
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm After the fall of A-H several new countries were formed and one was Czechoslovakia, which in 1993 separated into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
"Ruth" might be short for Ruthenian/Rusyn - Byzantine Catholic.
Was your Peter MARODY naturalized citizen? Did he have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
Did he file a Draft Registration Form? You need his place of birth to proceed with the research.
