Andrea: MIKULA Surname
I am researching my ggm Anna Mikula b. 1882 in Austria-Hungary. She was married to John Shiock (SAJAT). She immigrated to the US in 1902 with her first born son Steve to be with her husband in PA. If you know anything about her or the village she may have come from, please contact me.

Andrea

Have you found Anna's and Steve's (Istvan, Stefan, Stjepan) manifest? I have been posting information and e-mailing off the boards so I know the situation. You are aware of the countries that the surname MIKULA can be found in, in Poland, Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Croatia. Just some of the phone books I looked into. This is present time, of course.
Since they married in "old country" they were born from general area or village in close proximity to each other. How about Steve's US papers? Was he naturalized citizen or had social security numbers? You might have mentioned that and I forgot.
A size of Austria-Hungary in 1902:

Vital to find the manifest.

Andrea: Re: MIKULA Surname
I did find one manifest for an Anna and Stefan in 1901; however, they were going to Michigan. It could be them because she had a sister living in MI at the time. I also found a manifest listing Janos Zags...czik going to Homestead PA (near Pittsburgh)and to his brother-in-law Stepan Mikula. However, it listed him as being single and a farmer, so may not be John.

Their son, Steve, did have a social security number. He became a citizen when his father became naturalized.

Janos: Translation
Dear Andrea,
Bellow you have a "free-style" translation of Eva's posting:

"Greetings! My name is Eva Miklosi, the father of my father changed his name from MIKULA to MIKLOSI.
The name of Anna Mikula sounds very familiar for me, I will ask my father about her.
If I will have more, I will be back during the week.
Yours, E.M.

deity2: Re: MIKULA Surname

Hi there, my name is Peter Mikolay; one of my ancestor's name was MIKULA, and he's 'hungarised' it to MIKOLAY.
As we know, our family is from a hungarian town called Cegléd. We are investigating for further information recently.
