Zlatica : Re: Need help
Have you looked in Ellis Island website for MIKULCZAs manifest? There might be a clue.
Being that this is concerning the years 1940-41, I would think that there should be some information for you to locate at home.

No MIKULCZA in my family tree. You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research.

Are you a Mikulcza? Do you know much about the family? I am a Mikuleza. I suspect that Mikulcza is the same family. Could you share what you know about Mikulcza family history? Is Mikulcza Hungarian or romanian?

Chaun: Mikulcza Mikuleza
My father, Charles Mikuleza (Mikulcza) and his older brother Jerry were placed in an orphanage in Alton, Illinois at a very young age (both under 5 years old). The family name was misspelled when they were placed in the orphanage.

We learned of my grandfather John Mikulcza and uncles George, Charles and Michael through family research. Most of the family settled near St. Louis Missouri and some of in the north eastern united states.

I grew up without grandparents on the Mikuleza side. We (my sister and I) know very little and would like to learn more about our family roots. I never met any Mikuleza (or Mikulcza) outside my brothers and sisters. I am the oldest Mikuleza of my father's children. Kevin and Kenny Mikuleza are my cousins.

Before he died, a letter was written to a sibling or cousin of mine from our great-grand father giving some light as to why my father was orphaned. (Apparently, my grandfather was a "black sheep!")

I am interested in learning about the family history: the origin of our roots, stories, struggles and triumphs. i would like to learn about what members of the family do and where they live.

We have obtained documentation that is hard to interpret. At times there is Russian, Hungarian and Romanian facts about the family. When my wife and I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996, she met at doctor (older man) who was a first generation Hungarian. He recognized our last name and claimed it was Romanian. He then mentioned his hatred for Romanians and me (Apparently there is some bad blood between Romanians and Hungarians.).

I would like to know if I am indeed Romanian or Hungarian. If for nothing more than set that crazy doctor straight!!!

I would love to see picture of the family if there are some to share.

Can you help validate any of this or share any thing you know. If you think there is a tie, I would be happy to call you.

Thank you for responding. Where do you live?

Chaun

I will not go into politics of hatred between Hungarians and Romanians.
Here is a map of Austria-Hungary :

I am sure that any good search engine will kick out websites about that time in history.

Do you know what language your ancestor spoke? Was it Magyar / Hungarian or Romanian ?
Up to 1918 the records would say either Austria or Hungary. After the fall of this empire several new countries were formed and one was Romania. If you recall the history, Soviet Union etc. its satelite countries as that is where the Russian comes in. Unless your ancestor was of Orthodox belief.
In any case, do you have a name of a town? That is what you need in order to proceed with the research.

4 MIKULCZAs passed thru Ellis Island. You might want to take a look at those manifests.

mikuleza: mikulcza
Yes, chaun.mikuleza -a-t- wachovia.com -d-o-t-

Also, I do not speak German. I may get some help.

My Great, great grandfather was Vasil Mikulaninecz (or Mikulancnecz spelling?).

Charles B Mikuleza mentioned these spellings of the family name:
Slavic spelling of Basil Mikulihak
Russian spelling of Mrkyncza. Not sure if its "n" or another letter.

My great grand father was Charles B. Mikulcza 1888. His wife was Mary Kololy. They settled in Carteret, New Jersey USA arround 1900-1906. They later moved to Quad Cities USA by 1908.

His sons were Charles 1906, John 1908, Michael 1912,and George. His daughters were Mary, Annie, veronica.

My grandfather was John. His wife was Pearalee. He was a boilermaker/steel worker of sort in St. Louis Missouri.
He had 2 sons, Charles and Jerry. His wife left him and the 2 sons were placed in an orphanage in Alton, Illinois USA under age 5 or 6.

Later John Mikulcza married Katherine and had another son and daughter.

Does it sound like were are related? How common is the MIKULCZA name in Hungary?

Hello,

I was reading your questions about Mikulcza's. I am a Hungarian girl, living in Budapest. My mother's family name is Mikulcza. My mother's father was born in North-East part of Hungary and I as I know, the Mikulcza's originally came from Slovakia and/or Poland. If you take a look on a map, you can find city of Mikulca at the Poland-Slovakian border.
