Michael Guth: Searching for Jenny Mittelmann Gut
My grandmother, Jenny Mittelmann Guth, lived in Komarom. She was born in 1860 and married Ede Guth, my grandfather. Together they had a son Anton, my uncle, and Jeno (Eugene) Guth, my father. Jenny Mittelmann's family ran a lumber business in Komarom.

In the records of victims of the Holocaust, Jenny Gut, is shown from her last address, which was in Vienna. Jenny Mittelmann had a brother in Vienna who owned a quarry business.

If you have any records about the Mittelmann family of Komarom, please contact me.

Austria's phone book is listing MITTELMANN.
www.herold.at
Hungary's phone book is listing GUTH.

You might be already aware of that information.

Thank you for sharing this information. The Austrian phone book lists one person with the surname Mittelmann in Vienna. I could write him, but it might seem strange for a letter to come from nowhere asking if he had any relatives who died in the Holocaust.

I was not able to search the Hungarian phone book by the last name Guth. Potentially, there might be a Mittelmann also living in Komarom, which is now a city half in Hungary and half in Czechoslovakia.

No GUTH in Komarom but the surname does list in other places in Hungary.

Just checked the SK's phone book www.zoznamst.sk and sure enough some listings for MITTELMAN, MITTELMAN and GUTH.
Type a 0 (zero) in area code to get all the listings.

I get a MITTELMANN in Wien and Linz.
Nothing strange about sending a letter. How else will you find out a family connection. Why not send a letter with your ancestor's information (family) and if possible a photo of him/her and see what develops. I know of lots of people who have sent a letter, made a connection and then went to visit the ancestral village and distant relatives.

Zlatica,

Thank you for checking the phone book in Slovakia. I will follow up on your suggestion and write Andreas Mittelmann, the only person with that surname that I could locate in Vienna. He can't be a direct relative of my grandmother, because my father was her last child. But he might be related to Jenny Mittelmann's brother who ran the quarry business there in Vienna.

In addition to Mittelmann, what other surnames interest you? You can write me directly at mike -a-t- michaelguth -d-o-t- com and see my web page at http://michaelguth.com
