Small amount of MODLAs list in Slovak Republic's phone book. www.zoznamst.sk
Have you established a place of birth for your ancestors?
23 MODLAs came thru Ellis Island to America. www.ellisislandrecords.org You might want to take a look at the manifests.

In 1990 census of names there were 24 MODLAs in Poland.
www.herby.com.pl/herby in Polish and only distribution.
Have you noticed how many of the MODLAs were from Trips/Trypse/Tripsz etc? I think this a village Tribs in Szepes megye. This surname list in the Spis region / Szepes megye of Slovak Republic.
The old map is at : http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 except it does not show up on this but this map:
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/3felmeres.htm Click on Locse and West of village Durstin is Tribs. Both villages are in Poland. You can locate them with www.pilot.pl Trybsz and Dursztyn.
Few other MODLAs were from Feketeberez/ Feketebercz which is in Szepes megye and in Poland as Czarna Gora. Were your ancestors Greek Catholic / Byzantine Catholic?
