Joe: searching for relatives in Mezokovesd

Hello,

My name is Joe Hancharick and I live in Virginia, USA. My mother was
from Mezokovesd. My brother, sister and I are coming to Mezokovesd in
March 2006 to hopefully find relatives.

I found your name on the internet by chance and am writing to you asking
for a bit of help. My mother's maiden name was Nyeste and my
grandmother's maiden name was Sallai. Is it possible that you could put
me in touch with someone in Mezokovesd with those names? If you are
unable to do that, could you give me the email address of someone in
your local government office who I may be able to communicate with?

Surname NYESTE and SALLAI list in good numbers in Mezokovesd's phone book. Wish you had some more time to narrow down which one of them are related to you by sending them a letter with your family information.

I am Vince Kolozsvári from Hungary. Read in your letter that your
ancestors are from Mezőkövesd and you are actively searching for living
relatives. My ancestors hail from there also and I'm related to the
Sallai's as well. I plan to do research during the Eastern break and
will attempt to help you as well.

Send me an email for details, my mother is from the Nyeste family there. If you go you will find hundreds under this name in the local phone book, Sallai Peto Nyeste are very common names in Matyofold. The local Roman Catholic church records would be the best source since about 85% of the population in Mezokovesd was registered there at birth baptism or Marriage.
They might charge you some fee but that is the best lead.
Enjoy your trip there, dont forget to eat: Béles, Tyukleves Csigatésztával, öhön.....yum ...cheers Laszlo

Nyeste nevű ősöket keresek Mezőtárkányban. Nyeste egy honfoglaláskori magyar keresztnév volt, ennyit tudok róla.

Annie: Nyeste familiies from Batyu

Hi!

I am searching for connections to relatives who may have lived in Batyu, a Jewish community in the Carpathian Mountain area. Great grandfather Gabor Nyeste born around 1861, married to Julia Izsak, born around 1864. They were living in Batyu when they left out of Hamburg, Germany for Canada, in 1900 with their 3 children who were with them at that time were: oldest son, Gabor, daughter Piroska and son Firenc.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has any family members from that area who may be old enough to have some history of the people who lived in that area before the holocaust.

Please drop me a note if you can think of anything ...any clue or suggestion.
