My name is Michael F. Kottyan. Although born in Richmond, Indiana in May, 1948, I grew up in Galion, Ohio, and presently live in Broomfield, Colorado. My paternal grandfather was Joseph Michal Kottyan, who came from Hungray sometime around 1900. His wife-my grandmother-- was Mary (Lugsick--sp???). They had 9 children, including myu father--Francis Bernard Kottyan, born April 1925. His wife--my mother--was Edith Jean Shipman, born July 20, 1928. She died yesterday- July 17, 2001, age 78, in Pineveille, North Carolina (near Charlotte). I understand my grandfather had at lease 2 brothers--Steve and John (I think) who also came to the United States. I have not heard of 'Anna Kottyan;', but would love to know if we are related. I've been told that all "Kottyan"s are related in some way as it was not that common a name in Hungary. Please note that I do not read, speak, write Hungarian, although I do have Grandma Kottyan's prayer book which includes the names and birth dates of their children, including my father.
I love to hear from anyone with knowledge of our family name.
