ccole: Papai Lorincz
I am researching my Hungarian Family Tree.
The Papai Family lived in Raba Patona since the early 1700's. Every Papai in Raba Patona was of this same family.
Frank (Ferencz) Papai (changed to Papoi once in the US) came to America in 1910. The family settled in South Bend, Indiana.
Frank Papai married Anna Lorincz. She was born in Raba Patona as well.
There is a Varro family that married Ethel Papai. The Varros settled in Raba Patona in the 1800's. They lived in Nyul before that.
I administrate a Papoi Family Website on myfamily.com and have a 13 generation Family Tree for the Papai/Papoi Family if anyone is interested.
I am still researching the Raba Patona Church Records from the Latter Day Saints. I have been going through them for about 4 months now.

jennifer fleming: Re: Papai Lorincz
I am researching my family who emigrated from Raba Patona around 1910. My grandfather was Frank(Ferenc)Kaloci(Kaloczi) and my grandmother was Julia Nagy. Frank left Hungary first and waited in Wheeling, West Virginia for Julia to make the trip accompanied by her cousin, I believe, a few years later. Frank worked the coal mines, saved money and sent to Julia so she could join him in America. From Wheeling, they moved to Divernon, Illinois where Frank worked for the railroad. When the railroad closed down, they moved to Detroit, Michigan. They had a son who died as an infant and 3 daughters, my mother Christine, Isabel, and Olga. They have cousins in South Bend by the name Gyorkas, I believe. A story I once heard was that Julia's family of Nagy's was fairly well-to-do while Frank's family was not. The Nagy's forbid Julia to see him. Frank worked with horses in some way, maybe a stable boy or taking care of soldier's horses? Anyway, Julia defied her parents and married Frank, and I think was estrnged from her parents after that. In the early 1950's my mother and her 2 sisters received a letter from the Hungarian government stating that they would have to return to Hungary to claim land or it would go to the government. I have a little information about Frank's family but NONE about Julia's. Any information about either family and/or Raba Patona would be helpful. I would like to go to Raba Patona one day, but want more information before going.

Pápay Jenő testvéreit, születési helyét, őseit keresem.
Nem tudom, honnét, mikor telepedett le Ozorán. Talán Kurdról?
Ki volt az apja és honnét származott?
Hányan és kik voltak, hová lettek Jenő testvérei?

jennifer fleming: Re: Papai Lorincz
I spoke with Frank and Mary Takacs by telephone quite a few years ago. They lived in Divernon Illinois. I can't remember which, but either Frank or his father signed as a witness on my grandfather, Frank Kaloczi, U.S. citizenship papers. They were such nice people. Mary even sent me a cookbook that she had written. I haven't talked to them in years so I don't know if they are still living. We have recently moved and I haven't completely unpacked so I can't put my hand on it, but in that cookbook was a letter from Mary. I believe she named her children in that letter. As soon as I find it I will email back. Please email me any information about Rabapatona! Exactly where it is, how many people live there, any Kaloczi's or Nagy's in the town? I am longing for any information. It is my dream to come to Rabapatona one day. Thank you for any information you can give me.

HI,

I am also researching Rabapatona as my grandparents, Andras and Julia Molnar were born there before leaving for Divernon, Illinois in the early 1900s. He worked at Madison Coal Company and they had 4 children, Andrea, Irene, Gabriel and Julia.

Hi, I also have ancestors from Rabapatona with the surname Molnar. In my research, I see that Papai's were Godparents to several of my grandfather's siblings.

My Molnar's settled in Divernon, Illinois and worked in the coal mines. I do know that Papai's still live in this area.

Flossie: Re: Papai Lorincz
Hello - My name is Frank Nagy and I lived in Divernon in the 1920's. I knew the Takacs families well. I left Divernon when I was 8 years old but went back frequently. My wife, June, and I have visited with Frank and Mary. They have been to our home and we to their home. Frank grew grapes in their back yard and made delicious wine. When he passed away Mary gave us a bottle that we treasured. We finally drank it a little at a time but saved the bottle that has his handwriting on it. Mary moved to Oklahoma where their children were living. We visited Mary there before she passed away. They are both buried in Divernon. Frank's brother Louis and his wife Mary lived in Springfield, Illinois the last that we knew. The brothers were very close and along with their wives would attend neighboring church dinners on Sundays. We went with them a few times and always had a good time.
When they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there was a big party in Divernon and we went. I have a picture of them which I would like to send to you if you would like to have it.
Hoping to hear from you,
Frank and June Nagy

Jennifer Fleming 35: Re: Papai Lorincz
Dear Frank and June, I was so glad to read your post. Even though we never met, I think of Frank and Mary often. My husband and I were in Rabapatona, Hungary in May 2009 and in Divernon in Feb. 2007. We visited the home where Mary and Frank lived. We also went to the cemetary, but I did not see their grave sites. I would love to have a picture of them. I finally found the cookbook and letter that Mary sent to me, and I treasure it. I made copies and took them to Hungary with me and gave them to the Takacs family in Rabapatona. My email is nanajen49 -a-t- yahoo -d-o-t- com if you want to send the photo that way. If not, my address is Jennifer Fleming, 1507 12th Avenue, Franklinton, LA 70438. Thank you so much for contacting me.
