Ann Vogel: Pasztornyiczky
I am looking for descendants of Joseph and Ann Pasztornyiczky who came from Hungary. I do not know anything about them except that two of their daughters were named Rose and Grace and they came to the United States. Grace was the elder sister. Any information or leads would be gratefully appreciated. I am not sure of the correct spelling of the last name. Rose at times used Pasztornicky. Ann

Zlatica : Re: Pasztornyiczky
Ann

You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research.

The spelling PASZTORNYICZKY seems in Hungarian / Magyar grammar and Pasztornicky just a bit half and half americanized.
There was a PASZTORNYICKI and a PASZTORNYICZKI that passed thru Ellis Island to America.
You know that Rose, Grace, Joseph and Ann are their American name and not the way it was in Hungary.

Ann

Since Louis and Pam have pointed out a village, I took the liberty to follow thru.
The village of Drahnov is in Slovak Republic.
http://mapy.atlas.sk

The SK's phone site is at :
www.zoznamst.sk
A Slovak spelling PASTORNICKY lists in the area code 56 which would include Drahnov but no listing there. The closes village that Pastornicky shows up is in Budkovce which is 4km North of Drahnov.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing a Reformed church records of Drahnov. You can order the films and gather ancestral information.
www.bmi.net/jjaso to familiarize yourself with church wording.

Ann: Re: Pasztornyiczky/Dobrszka
I have since discovered Rozalia Pasztorniczka was born in Drahnov, county of Zenske to Jozsef Pasztorniczki (spelling from another person) and Anna roz. Dobrszka on or around November 12, 1905. The date of October 18, 1905 also comes up.
She was one of 16 children. Sons of Jozsef and Anna were: Pistav, Carl, Timothy, Fred, Desider, Sandor, grandson Laci, etc. Daughters were Magdalena, Elizabeth, Ilonka, Grace. Rose came to America when she was 16 so that would be around 1921 and we do not know how she got here except it was on a ship through Ellis Island.

Grace and Rose were sisters and when Rose came to Ohio she lived with her sister Grace. Grace is the only name I have known her by and can find in records. I did find a picture of Grandma Dobrosky who died and was buried in Murray City, Ohio USA.

Also can anyone tell me what this means: "dvacateho osmeho rigna tisic devet set pet."

Zlatica : Re: Pasztornyiczky/Dobrszka
The village of Drahnov is in Zemplin region of Slovak Republic. There is no Zenske which in Slovak would mean female.
The word roz. / rozena = maiden name
The date you have too seems to be in Slovak/ except for one word rigna does not make sense but it could be Rijna/ Rijen which is Czech for month of October.
28 of October 1965
Pistav is Pista.

Your welcome, Ann.

Glad to have helped. I have been informed of your correspondence with Istvan. He uses a correct Hungarian diacritical markings and thus the spelling for the names comes out "funny". I am sure you noticed that. Unless it is only my screen. Did you sent a letter to Trnava pri Laborci?
I did find some PASTORNICKYs listings in Czech Republic.
http://phone.quick.cz
I have seen the term Czech used as a generic term for someone being from former Czechoslovakia.

Ann Vogel: Re: Pasztornyiczky/Dobrszka
Dear Zlatica: I wanted to update you on what has happened over the past year or so since I made contact with my mother's family in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. My second cousin and I email each other quite frequently and I have made contact with other cousins in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and we email as best we can with the language barriers. I did write my letter(s) to locate my mother's brother. And, I actually found 2 relatives with the same letter - my mother's brother and another of her brother's sons (her brother Istvan had passed away). Unfortunately, they do not speak English so it has been difficult as I do not speak Hungarian or Slovakian--but they found someone to transcribe what I had written so we had some contact--it is difficult because of the language problem.

I would love to make contact with the Janka who at one time wrote a note in Radix Forum but it appears she has never come back to the website. She and her grandfather are family also--Stefan was another of my mother's brothers.
If you ever see her make contact in the Forum, I would hope you pass it along as I want to make contact with that part of mother's family too.

Again, you have no idea of how much you have helped both families on both sides of the ocean. I will be forever grateful. Thank you again. Ann Vogel
