Percsi: Wanting to learn about family history

My name is Kathryn and I am trying to find out something of the history of my grandfather's surname 'Percsi'. He knew very little about his own background since he was an orphan. His name was Alexander Percsi. He married Rosa Marta Pieochzech (sp?) and emigrated to Australia in about 1953. You need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed with the research.

There were 9 PERCSIs that passed thru Ellis Island to America. You might want to check out those manifests.

Dédszüleim Angliából jöttek Felsőbányára az 1700-as években, mint bányászok. Percsy (Pörszi) volt eredetileg, de az 1750 körül lett magyarositva, vagy elírva. Ezt nem tudom pontosan. Édesapám 1921-ben felsőbányán született, de ovodát Petrozsényban járta, de az iskolát felsőbányán, utána nagybányán felyezte be. 1940-töl a Magyar királyi hadseregben szolgált, majd, mikor Erdélyt lecsatolták, akkor magyarországra telepedett. Felszabaduláskor Ausztiából jött vissza, mint Amerikai hadifogoly.
1956. Jun. 15.én romániába repatriált.1961. dec. 6-án vissza jött. 1992-ben halt meg Százhalombattán.

Percsi Loránd a nevem. Budapesten lakom, de Kárpátaljai születésű vagyok. A szüleim úgy szintén.
Apukám Tiszaújlaki (Percsi Bertalan), nagyapámat Percsi Mihálynak hívták (1942-ben halt meg). Volt egy asztalos műhelye, amit államosítottak.

Az 1700-as rokonom amit irtal nem sokat tudok.
A cimed elveszett sajnos gondoltam irsz de elfogyott a türelmem s itt irok.

I now know that my grandfather was born in Khust. I also found a passenger list with his name on it. The ship was the SS Skaugum.

Aleksander PERCSI 1133
Departure Port: Naples
Departure Date: 31 August 1949
Arrival Port: Sydney - Australia
Arrival Date: 28 September 1949

The passengers of this ship were World War 2 refugees or displaced persons from European countries.
