tpiatak: Cleveland Piataks

My great-grandfather Joseph Piatak emigrated to Cleveland from Kolackov, Slovakia in 1899, followed by his wife Mary (nee Zoldak) in 1900. Four of Joseph's brothers also came to Cleveland from Kolackov at around the same time: George, John, Michael, and Jacob. These brothers and their descendants accounted for most of the Piataks living in Cleveland, and if you have Piatak relatives or ancestors who lived in Cleveland, chances are we're related and I'd like to hear from you.

A group of us have also contributed to a website on Kolackov, the ancestral village of my line of Piataks. It can be found at http://www.saed.kent.edu/~kolackov/

JPiatak: Piataks

I am married to a Piatak whose grandparents were Mary and Joseph Piatak. We currently live in Virginia, but know we have family in the Cleveland area. I would love to get in touch with more family!

Do you know whether Mary and Joseph were born in Slovakia or in Cleveland? I have information on all the Piataks who emigrated from Kolackov to Cleveland. My own great-grandparents were Joseph and Mary Piatak, both of whom emigrated to Cleveland from Kolackov.

My maiden name is Piatak. My father's name was William Piatak, and his father's Frank Piatak. Frank and his wife Ida lived in Portage, Pennsylvania for many years, although where they lived previously I'm not certain. My father always told me that my great-grandfather came over by boat from Austria Hungary but I'm not sure at the moment of his name. Feel free to contact me, elsebet @ gmail . com.
