Ottilie (Adel) POLACSEK was my great-grandmother. She was born 1840-45 probably in Ung megye and married Markus (Max, Miksa) NEUMAN from Szobrancz b. about 1840. Ottilie had a relative named Lipot--probably a father or brother-- who was a witness to the marriage in Szobrancz of her daughter Jozefina in 1889. Markus and Ottilie had children including Ludvik b. 1864, Roza b. 1866, my grandfather Viktor b. 1868, Josefina b. 1871 and Markus b. 1883. She probably died after 1917 based on birthdates of her granddaughters, none of whom bear her name.
My grandmother is Vilma Polacsek. Her father was Gyula Polacsek , who has died in the early '70s. Maybe later i can wite more about my relatives. I live in hungary (budapest).
Please let me know if your family is from Ung megye. I don't have any other information about the family of my great-grandmother Ottilie but I found some records for POLACSEK in Ungvar.
I am trying to trace my great grandmother's family back to Hungary. She came through Ellius Island in 1905, leaving behind a father (Jozef), perhaps 3 brothers (Josek, Pavel, Ludivik), and a mother believed to be Mary Saturday. This is based on memories and names I can make out in old letters. Any information would help.

Did you locate her actual Ellis Island manifest?
Would you share it?

Being that one of the brothers was named Pavel/Pavol (Pal in Hungarian), your research will be in a Slavic country.
Mary would be Maria in "old country".
Saturday - Sobota in Slovak.

Julia's place of birth is THE piece to the research.

No wonder I could not find her manifest. I was looking for POLACSEK and her manifest is under JULIA Polacsek. Somehow missed it looking for it with www.stevemorse.org
