Marek,

You will need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed with the search. Where are you? In SK?
If there, than you should know that the Slovak Republic's phone site is on the internet at www.zoznamst.sk .
There were 48 PROKSAs that passed thru Ellis Island to America and some of them were from Laksarska Nova Ves, Mosovce, etc.

To locate a town in Slovak Republic use :
http://mapy.atlas.sk

You need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed with the research.
The Slovak Republic's phone site is at :
www.zoznamst.sk
The surname PROKSA lists in city of Nitra's phone book. It is possible that the cradle / homestead might be in the village of Male Zaluzie. Basing that on the 4 listings in that village's phone book.

48 PROKSAs passed thru Ellis Island to America. By any chance your ancestor is there?

Proksa: Re: Proksa
I was born in Town of Zakopane (southern Poland), my garandpa was born in Town of Jelen (western Poland). And that is all I know. And what I've heard is that my grandfather had two brothers and one of them immigrated to US (I think his name is Edward Proksa). Thank you all for all replays it helps, because I have no idea how to get to it. :)

Zlatica : Re: Proksa
To locate a town in Poland use :
www.pilot.pl

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing some church records of Zakopane and Jelen. If they are appropriate for your research, go ahead and order them. Lots of ancestral information on them.
www.bmi.net/jjaso to familiarize yourself with church wording.

www.rat.de/kuijsten/navigator
http://vivisimo.com
www.pgsa.org
http://maxpages.com/poland
www.halgal.com

The 1990 Poland's census lists 505 PROKSAs.
www.herby.com.pl/herby

Look into Ellis Island manifests to see if Edward passed thru that port to America.
Do not overlook the US White Pages.

bgiannavola: Proksa surname
My grandfather was George Proksha (somehow it got changed from its original spelling of Proksa). He settled in St. Louis, but he had a brother, John, who lived in the Chicago area. My mother has lost track of her relatives. Any info?

Zlatica : Re: Proksa surname
bgiannavola,

Provide more data so someone can connect with your roots.
What language did your ancestor speak?
In 1990 in Poland there were 505 PROKSAs, 5 PROKSCHAs, and 228 PROKSZAs.
www.herby.com.pl/herby
You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research, more precisely into which country the search will take you.
Your English spelling Proksha seems like it might be or is pronounced as PROKS^A. That spelling and PROKSA lists in Slovak Republic's phone book.

gproksha: Re: Proksa surname
The George Proksha that you speak of in St. Louis is my great grandfather if I'm not mistaken (we never met). If I'm correct, he had a son by the name of Emil Proksha. I did not know of John. Hope some of this can help.
