| Jan Rittersporn: Looking for Rittersporns | Hi,
I am helping my wife to research her family name, Rittersporn. Here's what I know so far:
Marie Rittersporn, age 43, immigrated to America (via Ellis Island) in 1909 with two children, Bela (11) and Sarolta (Charlotte) who was 14. Bela became Bernard in the U.S. He was my wife's grandfather. The ship's manifest listed them as "Hebrew," which was a big surprise to us.
They came from Galgocs, Hungary, which I believe is now Hlohovec, Slovakia. I assume they were part of the Jewish community there. I would like to find out why they immigrated to America, what happened to the Jews who lived in Galgocs in the early 1900's, and if there is any family remaining in the area.
