I am trying to research my family Surname Rompilla . I think the name orginated in Hungary. I dont know were to begin .If anyone can help me or has any info please let me know. Thank you.

2 ROMPILLAs and 7 ROMPILAS came thru Ellis Island. www.ellisislandrecords.org might one of them be your ancestor?
Surname ROMPILA does exist in Cernina, Slovak Republic.

Was your ancestor naturalized citizen? Did he have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com I am sure you know that you start the family tree with what you know, YOU and proceed backwards gathering information on your parents, their parents etc. Need that place of birth, there is no way around it. The LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records but they are indexed by a name of a town and then religion.
