Dr. Richard

The town of Sobrance and Podhorod are in Slovak Republic.
http://mapy.atlas.sk for locating a town
The SK's phone site is listing the surname ROSENBERG but none in Sobrance.
www.zoznamst.sk
The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) have filmed the church records of SK so you can order them and gather ancestral information.

Vivian Kahn: Re: Rosenberg from Podhorod
My great-aunt Jozefina Neuman (b. Szobrancz 1871) was married to Izek Rozenberg (b. Ungvar 1865) son of David Rozenberg and Eszti Reisman. Jozefina and Izek (Ignacz?) were living in Szobrancz at least up to 1892. Their children born in Szobrancz included Ferencz (b. 1890), Margit (b. 1891), and Anna (Hani) b. 1892. Izek/Ignacz may have been a grocer. The Slovak government's on-line property database includes several Rosenbergs from Podhorod including Adolpf, Ignac, Tana (Juskovic), Pepi (Lieberova), Anna, Helena, and Margit. Please contact me if any of these names are familiar.

Vivian Kahn: Re: Rosenberg from Podhorod
I'm pretty sure that Podhoro/Podhradze is Slovak name for place in former Szobrancz jaras called Varalja. Do you have any HARTMAN in your family? Slovak Land Records list Hany (probably Hana or Hani) HARTMAN whose maiden name was ROSENBERG. I am wondering whether this could be Anna (Chana) b. 1892 whose parents were ROSENBERG Ignacz (Izek) and my great-aunt Josefina NEUMAN.

Dr. Richard Dodes: Re: Rosenberg from Podhorod
I am sure it is the same family. My grandmother might have been called Margit in Europe. In American she was called Mary. She had a sister in America called Helen and older brother in America named Ignaz, a brothes Joseph and David in America. SHe had a sister named Hanni who was in America, went back home and years later was killed by the Nazi's. She had a brother Adolf, called Avroham in the family, who was in a concentration camp and died in Europe. He was in the Hungarian army in World War I.

Vivian Kahn: Re: Rosenberg from Podhorod
This is very interesting! Do you have names for your great-grandparents (i.e. Margit/Mary's parents)? You might be able to get this information from her death certificate or from the death certificates from her siblings. Would also be helpful to know what the inscription on her headstone says. If your great-grandparents were named Yitzhak and Josefina or Pepi then there's a pretty good chance that we're related. Do you have any idea when your great-aunt Hani came to the US? We might be able to find more info on her passenger manifest. I will be visiting Hungary and this part of Slovakia in August and will have an opportunity to look for records that might provide more clues.

Vivian Kahn: ROSENBERG Adolph
Attached is a Page of Testimony for Rosenberg Adolf b. Podhorod 31 Dec 1901 that was submitted by his daughter Sara Zeller, Natanya, Israel. Adolf's parents were Nathan and Malvin Rosenberg. Nathan might have been a brother of my great-aunt's husband Ignac. Adolf was married to Lieber Josefka who is listed as Rosenbergerova Pepi in the Podhorod property records. The property records also list Zelerova Sarlota (probably Sarolta Zeller) maiden name Rosenberg. This is probably your Rosenberg family but I have not yet determined the connection to mine.

Could you please let me know the e-mail address of the on-line data base of the Slovak government that you mentioned on April 16, 2005?  Rosenberg - Ipolyvece forum: Zlatica: Re: RADO
ritamart: Re: ROSENBERG Adolph
I also have relatives from Ungvar. My great grandparents were Benjamin Hartman and Yetta Taub. One of their daughters married a Rosenberg. My big problem is that I don't know this daughter's first name. She would have been born between 1864-1880. She had siblings, Jacob, Ignatz, Marcus, Ethel and Rose. I found a Sarah Rosenberg born on June 16, 1897 in Ungvar on the LDS site. I thought she could possibly be this woman's daughter. Any information on the Rosenberg's or Hartman's of Ungvar would be very helpful.

Slovak Land Records database mentioned in previous message includes Hani (Chana?) HARTMAN born ROSENBERG in Podhorod (formerly Varalja, Szobrancz, Ung). There were many ROSENBERG in Ungvar. I also found some HARTMAN buried in Ungvar but no Benjamin.

Vivian: Re: ROSENBERG Adolph
I have not yet determined whether Adolph is related to the Rosenberg family in my tree. His father Nathan (Nahum) may have been a brother of Ignacz, husband of my great-aunt Josefine Neumann. According to my information, Sara's parents were Adolph Rosenberg and Josefka Lieber. Her siblings included Nathan b. 1933 and Magda b. 1935. Rich Dodes (see his messages above) is definitely related to this family.
