ckjgo1: Sargavy in Phone book
Just what am I supposed to do with Phone book info? I have found male "Sargavy" and Female "Stanek" in the Phone Book for Trencin. How do I contact these people? Do they speak English? I speak no Slovak.

Do you want to send them a letter? Would be best if it was in Slovak but English might do being that more and more youngests and adults are learning English.
Bill Tarkulich's site does have a sample letter.

Kathy Cox: Surname Sargavy
Kate, Where do you live? Do you live in Slovak Republic? Or do you live in the USA? I think that everyone in the US is probably related because Sargavy seems to be a rare name even in the Slovak Republic. My Great Grandfather came from the town of Trencin, Slovak Republic, but he was born in Dreitoma. There is an engineer in Dreitoma with the surname Sargavy who is probably also related. The 1869 Hungarian census is not transcribed for the Trencin Megye and may be lost in a fire so I will have to write the person in Drietoma to see if they can find the family connection. I do not know the names of either my maternal set of Great, Great Grandparents of either the Stanek(Stanik, etc) or of the Sargavy family. I am assuming that my Great Grandfather had brothers or male cousins with the Sargavy name. Other than in this specific area of Trencin and Drietoma, I find no other Sargavys in all of my research. My Grandmother Julia Sargavy had two brothers who also were in this country (USA). Their names were Stephen (Stefan) and Julius. My Great Grandparents were Andras (Andrew in USA)Sargavy and Carolina Stanek. Are we related? Probably, based on the fact that there are so few Sargavys in the world. Please reply to ckjgo1 -a-t- msn -d-o-t- com and we can discuss this further. If you are from the Slovak Republic, then I would love to find out information about my GG or G Grandparents. I also know that my GGrandfather was a furrier in Trencin before he left to come to the US and I also have the information on the boats taken and about their lives here in New York City (I live in Florida). He also became a furrier in New York city. I think that's all I have for now, but let's talk. Kathy Cox

Charles: Re: Surname Sargavy
Kate, I was organizing a desk inherited from my grandparents and came across a post card from a Julius Sargavy to my grandfather. My grandfather was a furrier and may have worked for Julius in Manhattan. (17 West 45th street - fifth floor.) As you might have guessed, I am now courious to know if this is the same Julius. My Grandfather would have worked with Julius from 1930 to maby 1965. Please e-mail me if you think this could be the same Manufacturing Furrier.
Thank You, Charles

Kathy: Re: Surname Sargavy
Charles,
Yes my Great Uncle (my Grandmother's Brother)is named Julius and he was in the fur business. His father Andras (Andrew) was in the fur business in Slovakia before he came to the USA and he continued the business here in New York. Both of his sons worked for him and they were Julius and Stefan. So it is the same Julius. After Julius retired, Both his sons, Edward and Richard also worked in the business. Can you copy the postcard and send me a copy by email? Or by Fax. My email is ckjgo1 -a-t- msn -d-o-t- com and my FAX number would be 001 407 365 8420. Thank you so much. And can you tell me the name of your grandfather and I can maybe ask Richard if he remembers him. Edward is now deceased and the business is no longer in existence. Thank you so much for contacting me with this information!!!!
